Dogman Narratives: First Dogman Sighting

In Michigan folklore, the Dogman was first witnessed in 1887 in Wexford County, Michigan. The creature is described as a seven foot tall, amber-eyed bipedal canine-like animal with the torso of a man and a fearsome howl that sounds like a human scream. The story stems from Native American myth, but has become more widely known in the past ten years. In 1987 disc jockey Steve Cook in Traverse City, Michigan recorded a song titled “The Legend”. After the song aired, on the radio, the station started to receive calls for many witnesses. Some say that the Dogman appears every ten years that fall with the last year ending in 7. What are the causes of these sightings? A large wolf or something more sinister? This episode features two dogman encounters. The first encounter is the first ever reported dogman sighting. The second take place in the early 1990’s in Luther, Michigan.

A couple of paragraphs from my novel:
The old Alpha smiled uneasily to himself as he remembered how the youth had shook in barely-controlled rage when the Rhugaru had shown himself. The anger was understandable, considering the age-old conflict between the Sasquatch and the Rhugaru… a battle long underway before the small, Hairless Ones ever appeared on the land.

The Rhugaru had been on the land longer than the oldest memories, large packs of them hunting the great herds of bison and even the mighty Mastodon in the clear-skied nights of long ago.

Both night hunters, the Sasquatch and the Rhugaru were sure to clash and they did. A clash that was ongoing and far older and more bitter and deadly than the one with the Hairless Ones. After all, despite their ever-expanding cities the Hairless Ones were creatures of the day, not the night.

The moral of the story is don’t smoke, specially if you’re in your teens. Don’t forget someone is always watching you and they may scare you into stop smoking or just kill you! Wolf W: Good luck with your book!
