The first vocalization was sent to me from a listener in Maine. The witness reported a sighting as well as strange noises coming from the woods. He setup a recorder and captured this in 2012. In 1994 Matt Moneymaker captured what we now call the Ohio howl. In 2013 Jim Sherman captured this audio in Michigan. They all sound very similar.

Very interesting Wes! Thanks for sharing.

It would be incredible if there was a map you could click on and hear the sounds recorded in any state just to see how similar or different they are. That was great to hear how similar these are.

I though that second Michigan howl was from around the Midland, MI area, not the Manistee national forest. I checked out Jim Sherman’s webpage but looks like all his audio has been taken down so I couldn’t confirm. Interesting similarity though.

I thought it was from the next county to the west of Midland County (I grew up in Midland Country until 22 years of age) which is Isabella County. I knew Jim had a 2 year or more recording project in Isabella County and got many interesting recordings. However, he investigated all over Northern Michigan also. He used to use the moniker Lord Cryptid, perhaps it is there.

(New Jersey) Fascinating! I’d hate to be in the woods at night and listen to any of these! BTW, can anyone say “Ohio Howl” three times fast ?

Definitely all the same type of call. I heard this call coming from a good distance away, maybe a mile or more, July 4th week of 2011 at my sister and BIL lake property Iosco County Michigan, coming from the Huron National Forest. I knew at that time what it was and I am sure it was responding to what I think were 3 Sasquatch scavenger party mimicking an owl and loon just about 300 yards from me. The next year in September at same place, my wife stayed up late and said she may have heard a Sasquatch call, again coming from the north in roughly same area as what I heard. When we got home I played the Ohio Howl for her, and she stated this is what she heard. What is different, of course, is your ears can decipher the call many times better than a recorder that what you are hearing is not human.

Sounds the same to me,maybe brothers?

Great stuff Wes. Would love to know roughly where in Maine that was captured since I am from there and still have property there.
Thanks as always!

all those howels are very similar indeed, unfortunately I witnessed a massive wolf approaching 200lbs make that exact same howl 4 times right in front of me on a powerline in Alberta in November 2008…my hair stood up on my neck and the howl was intense happpening right in front of me…if I did not have a 300 win/mag with me I would of a had a real hard time walking out of the bush that evening.
