Interesting email I received from a listener “Thought you might like this story, my father was a WW II veteran and lived to see the Patterson film, granted it was in black & white back then.
His response was that he guessed those Canadians hadn’t been fooling with him. He had done some trapping to extra money before he entered the service. During the war he met and talked with some Canadians who had been professional trappers (beavers etc.) While talking they told a story that at time in the woods they would run across big human looking footprints. That was dangerous, and maybe it was time to leave the area.
If they stayed they often would find their traps had been torn to pieces. And ripping a metal trap apart is no easy matter. If this started to happen they knew it was time to immediately leave or as they told him they’d be killed next. None of them had actually seen the creature. At the time the Canadians had seemed serious, but my father had thought it was a bunch of, in his words, “bulls***” Then he saw the Patterson film.
And by the way, my father was an experienced woodsman, he thought the film was of a real animal, with the possible disclaimer that the film wasn’t the best quality. Just thought you might like to hear that story””

I would definitely believe the Canadian trappers stories, I am surprised that there haven’t been many stories on SC from Canadian witnesses..

Good email. My take is another event that shows just how smart these creatures really are. I wonder if they were doing this to protect their members, especially the young, or the other forest animals. Or were they just saying keep your human crap out of our domain. My opinion, probably all the above. Of course in modern day events we know how clever they are at tearing apart human traps especially those built by Bill of Aims.
