A group of Chinese scientists report that they created a new type of monkey with a human brain gene. The researchers said they implanted the so-called MCPH1 gene into the embryos of 11 transgenic rhesus monkeys.

Of course, with China officially being atheist, there is no moral dilemma here. This is what is being released for public consumption so one MUST ask, “What is NOT yet being released?” Personally, I think there are far more advanced chimeras being created. Time will tell.

Brief check implies that the MCPH1 gene in involved in several issues. It can be associated with Primiary microcephaly, and also with tumor susceptability when it’s mutated. Think I read that correctly. So, makes you wonder why they would do this? Are they looking for some kind of tumor blocker? Have to wonder why they would possibly want a bunch of small headed monkeys…trying to study how to prevent it? Sure does make you wonder what in the world they are up to, and for what purposes. Think Steve has probably got a good thought on the chimera idea.
