I received this email and spoke to the witness last night. There is a little bit more to the story than what is below and the witness has agreed to come on the show. I think it is a great encounter and really speaks to the behavior of these creatures.

“Hi Wes,
One of my friends referred me to your website and podcast, he suggested I contact you as I had an encounter back in 1987 out in San Berndino county CA while I was 12 years old at the time and was camping with my boy scout troop. (around the silverwood lake area)
We went on a 15 mile hike and camped out over night about the half way point. Late that night I woke up hearing a very large animal approaching the tent. I could see it’s shadow approach and it was walking upright, stooped down to smell the tent and I could hear it breathing very heavily. At one point it pressed a hand into the side of the tent and it had a very human shape with a visible thumb. But it was massive, about 12-14 inches in length.
I didn’t know what else to do so I punched it in the palm at which point the hand jumped back and there was a snorting noise somewhat like it was was startled. After a moment it stood back up and walked away. I didn’t dare look outside as I was completely terrified.
I could tell it was absolutely massive as it stood well over the tent, even when it was crouched it was still taller than the tent which was about 4.5-5ft tall so it was easily 6 ft crouched. We’d also experienced some rock throwing earlier in the evening which I’d never connected with it until more recently when I was watching some programs on tv that mentioned that it was typical behavior.
I’d reported it to the BFRO website a while back and they recently reached out to me by email as there have been a number of recent reports coming from the same area over the past summer”

I had a friend report to me a similar encounter only she watched it crouch over another girls sleeping bag sniffed then walked off on two feet but this took place in Northern California

We just have no idea the trauma we may unknowingly put our children through, do we? Can’t wait to hear the rest of it – wonder if they found tracks and what the scout leader said/did! And if anyone else heard it! Gonna be a good one I bet.

Well, I think this may be the one and only person to ever punch a Sasquatch and live to tell about it, That’s one bad (very lucky) boy scout.

I agree! How brave to punch it in the palm of its hand. I wonder if the guy could tell Wes/us what that felt like. I can imagine, but I’d rather hear his encounter. Man, I’d never be able to hit it, but then again, under that kinda pressure, one never knows lol. Thanks for sharing Wes.

Looking for an unoccupied tent to rummage through for a quick snack before hiking back over the mountains? Still very kreepy.

That would be extremely traumatizing ,I for one can say that while I was on KP duty in the C.C.C’.s on one particular spike job (back country job contract) I was in charge of sleeping in the kitchen to protect it from bears, now all our food was stored in bear proof containers away from camp but the food residue on the pots and pans still had enough scent to attract bears even though the pots and pans had been cleaned, well one night about 1-2 a.m. I had a bear come up to the kitchen tent and started sniffing around and I was woken up when the bear began to sniff my head and at that moment I was frozen but quickly got over it since the bear mace was right next to me so I unzipped the zipper 3″ flipped the safety off and let the him have it !the bear did not come back-THIS KID HAD IT WAY WORSE THAN I DID HE HAD A SQUATCH MESSIN’ WITH HIS TENT!
