A listener writes “Hey Wes I wanted to tell you about an encounter I had 20 years ago at a summer camp. Well I had been selected by my troop to enter the order of the arrow.
A fraternal brotherhood of scouts and one of the induction criteria is a overnight camp with no shelter just you your sleeping bag and the stars.
Sounds peaceful right. Well we were guided out into the woods by the order leaders. I was told too make my camp bed and go on too sleep. I had been positioned next to a standing pine tree with a young pine sapling next to it. Well I made my bed of pine straw and settled in for the night. The sky was perfect that night I could see all the stars and constellations plus the Milky Way. The forest was so bright there was no need for a flashlight. I had always had trouble getting comfortable with this style camping. Cause your senses really get alert in this situation well I finally drifted of to sleep and you know how you can sense something is near you. Well that was me tossing and turning all night and talking in my sleep.
Well I remember the next moment vividly I was awaken by the sound of wings and this sudden rush of wind over me. This huge owl had landed on the fallen sapling over me. Well this woke me up and I saw the owl sitting there staring back at me. Now at this point I started smelling this urine smell like a bad rest stop. So I continued to watch the owl as its head swiveled around looking everywhere it looked like it was staring at the standing pine and suddenly flew away. I didn’t think too much about it flying away but when I looked at the tree there was something peaking at me from behind it. Now I didn’t panic cause I remembered my scout training when ever something happens don’t panic. You can’t solve anything with a panicked mind. I remember quite vividly that the eyes had this pale yellow look to them. Wes it could’ve been more than 10 feet away from me I scooted back where my camp had been made.
My heart was pounding so hard I could feel my ear drums with every heart beat. And then this thing stepped out from behind the tree it had too be 7.5 feet tall I actually measured that morning and then it sat down and it was weird how it sat. It looked like Spider-Man crouching down well at this point I was calming down cause the rational side of my brain kicked in and I started really observing little details it was a female the breasts were flat but there was no visible male genitalia I think it felt bad that it scared me so but it started humming to me.
I guess trying to calm me down some. But it felt like eternity although I don’t know how long the encounter lasted. I never felt threatened by it it seemed curious like what is this strange thing in my woods. I believe it was passing by where I was camped at and heard me talking out in my sleep and came to investigate. I never told anyone about my encounter because I knew about Bigfoot but just believed it to be a myth not something I would actually see. And who would believe a 14 year old about what he saw at night. Well Wes if you would like to talk to me further please do I will be happy to get into further detail”

I hope you can get him to tell this encounter on the show. I have an extensive scouting background and remember my Order of the Arrow ordeal well. I like this type of encounter because I can relate to the setting of the encounter- minus sasquatch. I cant imagine at that age probably now.

Wow, what a cool encounter story. I can’t believe that it sat down with him and started humming to him to calm him down. If that’s not intelligence and kindness I don’t know what is. So they are not all murdering savages which is something I’ve always suspected. I agree they are unpredictable at best and this encounter could have easily gone a different way, But I’m really starting to think that these creatures act aggressively out of a perceived threat, say a human male carrying a gun, they may be able to either smell or sense our testosterone and the gun and taken as a whole I could see where they might think of us as a threat. Just my opinion, I could very well be wrong.

Now that’s a hair raising encounter for a 14 year old Brave Boy Scout…

Thank you so much for sharing your amazing encounter. And a lucky one – it’s good you had training from the scouts not to panic. I’m sure things would have gone a lot different if you had. I love the scary enounters but it is so nice to read about a good experience too. Sure would love to hear more about this experience!!

I bet he never forgets that experience! He did all the right things though, so his training came through for him. Hope he got his “arrow’ because he deserved it.
