Bowling Ball Size Rocks Would Fly Over Our Tent

A listener writes “When I was around 16 or 17, so, about 1991, 1992 a buddy and I went camping near Chelatchie wa. There is a bridge where fly creek runs into canyon creek. We camped under the bridge. This was 30 years ago, but only after listening to a bunch of your shows on spodify, im left wondering if I had a sasquatch encounter.

We had spent a night there with no problem. The second night, we moved our tent down right next to the water. There was a small gravel beach we set it on, and a large bolder right behind us.
That day, a couple showed up and took our previous tent site. The guy had fallen on the steep trail down there. We were on our way out, so we stopped to help him. He said he was OK, so we continued. I suddenly heard “stop”. We turned around and he had a bow (no arrow in it) pulled back and aimed at me. We kept walking, he said stop again, but we booked it out of there. We came back later and they were at their campsite like nothing happened.

Now, with that being said, I have always thought this was that guy on drugs doing some weird stuff.

After it got dark we were in the tent. Suddenly we heard a large splash in front of our tent. Then screaming. No words, just screaming. I think it was standing on the bolder behind our tent and threw the rock over the tent. A short time later there was another splash in the middle and more screaming from what sounded like on top of the bridge. This went on for a while. We weren’t scared, but very uncomfortable. We had assumed it was the guy from earlier. The rocks were being thrown from several locations, over our tent, from the bridge and upstream a little. The odd part I never understood, the time between rocks being thrown seemed awful close together, and it had a steep trail to get up to the bridge while carrying a rock.

These were, im guessing bowling ball size rocks based just off the sound. A rock would fly over our tent, then a minute later one would be thrown off the bridge, then one up river. Someone would have to full out run to get from one location to another, up and down that trail to accomplish the time between rocks. Seemed like it would go on for a bit, then get quite. Then start all over again.

About midnight, we both finally decided to leave. We never saw anything, not even the couple that was down there. It was quiet all the way to the truck. We drove around for a while, then came back, aimed the truck at the trail, and tried to sleep while watching for who was doing it. We never saw anything, or heard anything from the truck. The only other weird thing we noticed is the couple down there had built a large fire, it lit up the whole canyon while we were gone. The next day, we packed our stuff, on the way out a lady had fallen on the trail. The guy from the day before was up, and helping her. He seemed totally normal. Not a word about the night, he actually seemed very alert and helpful to for the lady who fell. She was ok, so we left. Never camped there again. I have thought a lot about that night, but never have been able to figure out what went on.

Like I said, I always thought it was the guy. But after listening to your show, iv heard screams or yells that were similar, just loud, no words. The rocks also seem to match up with behavior iv heard many people talk about. I feel like moving the tent to the water made us more visible and could have been chased off. Or maybe it was the guy on drugs. Ill never know.”
