Paranormal Portal writes “Most would regard seeing a ghost as a moment of terror. There are others among us who go into the dark places looking for just this experience. Tex Wesson of Tex’s Front Porch YouTube channel and Podcast joins me to discuss his many experiences with the spirits that started when he moved into a brand new home and became another of his passions exploring the unknown and paranormal. From apparitions in his home to finding a small child sized ghost nestled in his bed, his experiences are incredibly shocking and profound.”

Alabama is home to a surprising number of archaeological sites with deep, rich histories dating back centuries. While many of these locations have been extensively excavated and cataloged, others may go unseen for years to come. Luckily, one archaeological site less than 20 miles south of Tuscaloosa has been a definitive area of interest for more than 100 years. The Encyclopedia of Alabama has provided a record of the Moundville archaeological site’s history.

On the Black Warrior River, the Moundville was “once a thriving ceremonial and political center of Mississippian culture.” In 1869, Nathaniel T. Lupton had the Moundville archaeological site mapped. This initial effort created a strong pull to the site for archaeologists in the area.

Evidence of a community that remained in the area for more than 300 years has been found at the site. Unfortunately, there are no written historical accounts from the time period in American history, so what is known about the site and those who resided in the area is the result of archaeological findings.

“The Moundville site was founded around 1120 by Native American peoples of the Mississippian period, so named for its origins along the Mississippi River.” The site which spans more than 180 acres appears to be an organized community. The large, recognizable mound often referred to as a plaza and its nearly 30 surrounding counterparts were constructed by the community.

It is believed that each mound was created by layering with earth taken from the surrounding area which has since developed into lakes. Archaeologists have determined that the mounds were constructed in a series of stages over many years with some as short as one meter with others reaching heights of nearly 60 feet.

Why The Community Was Created

At this time, archaeologists have not come to a conclusion as to why the Moundville site was created. It is evident that those in the community utilized the land for fishing, hunting, and growing food and that the community was well-fed by a surplus of supply.

Archaeologists also point to potential evidence of warfare as a motive for the site’s seemingly elaborate construction. “The remains of fortifications indicate that warfare may also have been a factor. A log-walled palisade and earthwork was erected early in the site’s construction.”

Moundville was a successful community in numbers. By the start of the 14th century, the town of Moundville had become the largest in the state. By taking into consideration the volume of housing structures and burial sites, experts estimate a population of 1,000 at the height of the town’s prosperity.

The Fall of Moundville

Between the start of the 14th century and the middle of the 15th, Moundville lost nearly all of its inhabitants. The cause of the abandonment has not been determined, but archaeologists point to the next significant moment in history for confirmation of the town’s gradual collapse.

“By 1540, when explorer Hernando de Soto marched his army of Spanish conquistadors through the area, Moundville likely had few inhabitants. None of the villages described in accounts of the expedition can be identified with certainty as Moundville, and subsequent written descriptions of the area do not appear again until the early eighteenth century when the region was found to be mostly uninhabited.”

While we may not know how or why the once successful settlement fell, archaeologists continue working to unlock the mystery of Moundville.

A team of archaeologists led by Dr. Pearce Paul Creasman , executive director of the American Center of Research, has discovered a hidden tomb beneath the iconic Treasury building in the ancient city of Petra , Jordan. The tomb, which contains at least 12 human skeletons and artifacts estimated to be over 2,000 years old, was found using ground-penetrating radar technology. The discovery was made earlier this year, but the team had to wait for permission from the Jordanian government before they could begin their excavation.

The Treasury, or the Khaznah, is carved into pink sandstone cliffs and is one of the most famous landmarks in Petra. The city, known for its unique architecture and many mysteries, was voted as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World in the 2000s. The Treasury itself has been featured in several movies, most notably as the site of the Holy Grail in the 1989 film Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

Unlike many tombs found in Petra, which are often empty or disturbed, this newly discovered tomb was filled with complete skeletal remains and grave goods made from bronze, iron, and ceramic. The intact burial provides rare insight into the lives of the Nabataeans, ancient Arabian nomads whose desert kingdom thrived from the fourth century BC to AD 106.

Josh Gates , host of Discovery Channel’s Expedition Unknown , described the find as a “hugely rare discovery.” He added, “In the two centuries that Petra has been investigated by archaeologists, nothing like this has been found before.”

The researchers believe this may be the largest collection of human remains found in one place within Petra . As they continue to study the skeletons, they hope to learn more about who these people were in life. They plan to date the skeletons and artifacts, extract DNA to determine whether the skeletons are related, and conduct other analyses to assess their diets and whether they had physical jobs.

Four Bandits writes “I had an incident happen to me on September 28-29, 2024 which made me a believer that the creature we call Bigfoot or Sasquatch does indeed exist.

These stories usually come out of the Pacific Northwest, but this particular one happened to me, and it took place in the White Mountains, near Bristlecone Pines, an area located just above Bishop, California. It happened around 2:00am, on a waxing crescent Moon night. Watch the video for all the details.”

Dave writes “In 1980 I was 12 years old. I spent the summer that year in Seattle Washington in a town called Woodinville, with my cousin Jimmy, who is my age and my aunt Bobby, and uncle Bill. Before my parents put me on a plane from San Jose, California to Seattle Washington I’ll never forget the reason why they put me on that plane. They were extremely upset with me.

Aunt Bobby and uncle Bill had a gorgeous big house and their backyard gave way to acres and acres of forest with gigantic redwood trees. I remember being so fascinated because I had never seen anything like this before and I was amazed as to how dark it could get the deeper you walked in to this forest on the long sunny summer days. When we finally got to the house after picking me up from the airport, my cousin Jimmy couldn’t wait to show me around. His bedroom had shelves that were stacked with board games and model airplanes. He had airplane models hanging from the ceiling and I was so mesmerized. The house look like a big giant log cabin with all the modern luxuries inside. I had never seen Atari before and playing space invaders would become a new favorite of mine at that time.

As the weeks rolled by the summer, fun seemed to never end until one afternoon as I was nearing the end of my stay and having to go back home and go back to school. My cousin, Jimmy and I got into an argument over something. I decided to get on the bicycle And I took off by myself and rode out into the forest. On my way out there I saw banana slugs, which still amaze me and I ran into one of the kids who flew past me on his bicycle, but he didn’t say anything to me. I kept riding.

I was approaching that hill where you have to pedal faster in order to get to the top, but before I reached the bottom of that hill is when I smelled an odor that was so putrid, but it also scared me and I don’t know why. It was an odor that I had never smelled before, and it was telling me that it was something bad. As soon as I smelled that I heard growls and grunting and they were strong and my first initial thought was that it was a giant pig or something. Whatever it was, it was on the other side of the small hill so I laid my bike down, and I cautiously walked up the hill, hunched down. The low guttural grunts were getting louder and I could hear what sounded like clapping like to rocks being clanked together. I got down on my stomach when I got to the top and I looked down and there he was. He was crouched down with his knees towards his chest, and it looked like he was stabbing something with a stick, and then it looked like he was rubbing his hands together on a stick almost in the way that you would try and start a fire with a stick. My first initial thought is that this was Chewbacca. This must be somebody in a Chewbacca costume and they are doing promo shots for a poster or something. Well I knew it wasn’t Chewbacca and this thing was huge and it stunk and it was doing something, but I couldn’t tell what. It was clanking a rock, and then playing with a stick and grunting, and it had mud on it and leaves on its head and it had hair from head to toe. He turned his face a little towards me and I could see that it was gray. I knew this was not a person.

I knew what Bigfoot was, but I always thought there was only one big foot I didn’t know there were others. I also knew at that moment that this must be the man those kids were telling me about, but it’s no man this was a Sasquatch. My heart was pounding so hard and so loud I knew this thing had to of heard it. He kept looking towards me, but he would never make eye contact with me. I almost feel like he knew I was there. In fact, I knew he knew I was looking at him. I was frozen with fear and I couldn’t move. I even started crying a little and I was trying to be as quiet as I could because I thought he was going to grab me and take me off into the woods. He was making sounds just like the Sierra sounds recordings. I slowly backed down from that hill, crawling backwards on my stomach back to my bicycle. All the while this thing kept clanking the rocks together and doing something with sticks.

I got back on that bicycle and I took off as fast as I could on that bike, and I kept looking back to see if it was chasing me because I felt like he was but when I looked back, there was nothing there. I could still smell it.

When I got back home to Jimmy’s house, I put the bike in the garage and I went in the house and went upstairs and jumped on the bed and put my face in the pillow. My aunt Bobby came in and asked me if I was OK and I said yeah I’m just tired and she asked me why I was so white? I told her because it was hot outside and I was riding my bike, but she didn’t believe me because she told me I should just be red all over not pale white. She thought I was getting the flu or something but I insisted I was OK.”

A listener writes “Hi Wes, I just heard your episode with the gentleman from Lake Odessa/ Clarksville Michigan. I live in the same area and have found some canine tracks too large for coyotes, and in places where I wouldn’t expect someone’s large pet to be roaming.

I’d love to talk to your guest, but I also understand that you cannot give out his contact information, but I’ll leave mine if you’d like to pass it on to him. I’m attaching a couple photos of the tracks, and a opossum I found with it’s skin pulled off like a sock and hung in a tree.”

Ty writes “Hey Wes I wanted to update you on something… so the first encounter was at my parents house now I’m older and moved out living about 30ish minutes west of them… anyways when we had the first encounter the DNR as I stated we’re searching for a cougar…never found anything.

The problem kind of faded and would come back every so often… now that I’m living where I’m at yesterday this would be September 30th DNR is around looking for in their words a “dominant predator” and my mother called me this morning and said that the DNR said the same thing to her… police are patrolling down her road… and she also told me there aren’t any deer or turkeys on her property (they are surrounded by about 6-7 acres of woods 25acers of field and then across that field about 30 acres of woods)… as I’ve stated my dogs are going insane lately and I think it’s around where I live currently our neighbors cat is missing trash in the parking lot is being torn out and it’s not raccoons it’s like bigger pieces of trash… I also live in the woods that surround us for about a mile not sure how many acres that is but it’s pretty thick… and we also haven’t had any deer around the last month or so which is when the DNR would come around but it stopped for about 2 weeks… now they are back with dogs and police and the whole bundle… its just strange.”

I will also be speaking to Barbie, Barbie writes ” I am slowly starting to open up about my experiences with the paranormal (and Sasquatch). The story below takes place in Baskett, KY, which is beside Spottsville, KY in the County of Henderson. The story about The Spottsville Monster that was on your podcast episodes 51 & 56 took place a few miles down the road from my grandparents property. I have been debating for a month now on whether or not to share my story with you and I have decided that it’s time for it to be documented or recorded somewhere. I just started listening to your podcast from the beginning.”

Deep in the woods of West Virginia, there is a legend of a terrifying creature known as the Grafton Monster. It is said to be a nine-foot-tall, four-foot-wide behemoth with pale, slick, rubbery skin and a grotesque, headless body.

The most famous sighting of the Grafton Monster occurred in 1964, when a young newspaper reporter named Robert Cockrell encountered it while driving home from work late at night. Cockrell described the creature as being “the most hideous thing I’ve ever seen.”

He said it had a huge, gaping mouth and two glowing red eyes. Two days later, Cockrell wrote in the Grafton Sentinel newspaper that the creature stood between seven and nine feet tall, had “seal-like” skin, and appeared to be headless. It also produced a whistling sound. According to Cockrell, it scurried off.

Cockrell’s sighting was not the only one. In the years since, there have been numerous reports of people seeing the Grafton Monster, both in Grafton and in the surrounding areas. Some witnesses have said that the creature is headless, while others have said that it has a small, reptilian head.

The legend of the Braxton County or Flatwoods Monster arose near dusk on September 12, 1952, when a group of local youths were startled from a game of football by a fireball streaking across the sky. The fireball fell to earth just beyond a hillside at Flatwoods.

Joined by Kathleen May, a local beautician, the boys went to investigate. The group consisted of Mrs. May, Eugene Lemon, Teddy May, Ronald Shaver, Neal Nunley, Teddy Neal, and Tommy Hyer.

The group of seven approached the top of the hill where the fireball had landed. Beyond the hill, they reported seeing a pulsating light. Then suddenly, to their left, two powerful light beams pierced the darkness.

Turning their own flashlight in that direction, they saw a large man-like creature nearly 12 feet tall and about four feet wide. Making no sound, it floated toward them. The creature had a red face and bright green clothing, which hung in folds below the waist.

Its head was shaped like the ace of spades and there was an almost sickening metallic odor emanating from its body. The witnesses quickly fled the scene. A later investigation found only a lingering odor, two large skid marks, and trampled grass.

Although the Monster has never reappeared, Flatwoods celebrated its 50th anniversary with a community festival in 2002. An annual convention is now held in Flatwoods.

Kentucky Bigfoot Research Organization writes “Barbara shares her frightening Bigfoot encounter when she was a young girl! A creepy Bigfoot watched her through her bedroom window as she tried to go to bed in a very rural area of Riceville, Kentucky. Her traumatic experience occurred in the Summer of 1974.”
