Whitehall, NY area has been historical hotspot, although this may be a bit of a ways away. In the center of Massachusetts there has been past activity. It is given a specific corridor name that eludes me and runs between Springfield and Worcester all the way down into Connecticut. Looking at a map, Western Ma has a good bit of forest, and up into Vermont, or Eastern, NY. Just pick a forested area close by with good river or creek systems and go out at night, when they seem to be most active. And good luck.
