Batutut

Some people call it a Rock Ape, some call it Ujit, others call it Nguoi Rung but regardless of the name you call the Batutut this hidden hominid is very similar to the North American bigfoot. The creature is often seen forging for food in the forest and jungles of of Vietnam, Laos and northern Borneo. The creature has been sighted for well over 50 years. In 1947 a sighting by a French colonist refereed to the animal as a L’Homme Sauvage, translated it means “wild man”.

In his book Very Crazy G.I. – Strange but True Stories of the Vietnam War, Kregg P. J. Jorgenson relates a sighting of such a creature by a team of US soldiers. The men referred to it as a “Rock Ape” reporting it as being small in stature, about 5 feet tall and having a reddish tinge to its fur.

Two Người Rừngs were reportedly captured by tribesmen near Đắk Lắk Province in 1971. In 1974 a North Vietnamese general, Hoang Minh Thao, requested an expedition to find evidence of the creatures, but it was unsuccessful.

In 1969-70, I was up, kind of in the corner where the DMZ intersected the border with Laos. We saw quite a few smallish monkeys, darkish brown with lighter color on chest area. I never saw what everyone called a rock ape, but we were all warned, to never throw a hand grenade at them, as they would throw it back. In our unit, rock apes were regarded as totally real, some kind of human sized monkey. Now, I’m glad I didn’t encounter one. Everything in that jungle, either bit, stung, poked, gave you “the runs”, or some kind of horrid rash!
    (or shot you)
