BONAPARTE, Iowa — An Iowa woman last Wednesday said she saw a bipedal creature by a river in Van Buren County.

“It was about 10:30 p.m., I was sitting at the Des Moines river on the ledge right at the water, when I heard a rock being thrown in, and a second later I heard another kaboosh , and then a third,” Tye, who didn’t provide a last name.
As she turned her head toward the splashing noise, says Tye, a “huge hairy” creature stepped out of the woods into the water.
“It looked like a man but bigger, just standing there. It was so big it blocked out a light on the water from a distant house. It had very wide shoulders and I only saw from chest on up,” she explained, adding that she couldn’t see its face due to “matted hair”.
Tye maintains the alleged creature, which she refers to as “Momo“, noticed her presence and that it tried to hide out of sight twice prior to going back into the woods. She believes an approaching vehicle startled the animal. “Momo is very real and was here that night,” Tye said.
Iowa has had a fair share of odd occurrences this year. Last April, three people claimed to have witnessed a human-like creature with animal face in a forest next to the city of Council Bluffs. The city of Bonaparte, established in 1837, sits on the 526 mile-long Mississippi River tributary Des Moines River area with a population of 447.

First-again! I grew up in Iowa and when I go for a visit this fall, I plan to camp on my brother’s property, which is 40 acres of thick forest that backs up to the Raccoon River. The acreage is full of turkey and deer and is very high (for Iowa), with a steep slope down to the river. Not really expecting to see BF, but one never knows! BTW-nice encounter and thanks for posting!

I drive across the whole state of Iowa 6 nights a week, the amount of prey animals near the rivers is incredible! I have a dash cam just in case.

I live in Davenport Iowa; I have had 3 encounters as a child and a volunteer who works with me shared she also had a childhood encounter in Clinton, IA. The guy from Eldridge, IA that was on the show and shared he was stalked by a bigfoot on his paper route is smack in between us. All within about a 40 mile trek along the Mississippi river basin.

That is great Charles! Hope you catch something on your dash cam! And Caroline, would love to hear your encounters. I remember the Iowa paperboy episode and found it terrifying; poor guy was convinced the thing was going to devour him!

Thanks Jan. Yeah, I would love to share my encounters… emailed Wes, Will and Shannon a while back but no response from any of them. I can tell you this, one of our local critters must of hit me with infrasound and it knocked me out (I was only 7 or 8). I had crawled into a ground nest and found some misc items there I was looking at… next thing I know I am waking up about 5 feet down from the nest and my clothes were all messed up. It has been a mystery all these many years as to how I got knocked out because I wasnt hit on the head nor did anyone come up from behind me and put cloraphyl over my mouth or anything else to explain what happened to me… it wasnt until I heard the episode with Brenda Harris talking about infrasound that it all began to make sense… in fact, it is the only thing that makes sense of my experience. I had 2 other encounters after this one. I have rheumatoid arthritis in my hands so it is difficult to type sometimes… I wish WES would give me a call so I can share my encounters with all of you. 😉

That is quite terrifying, Caroline. I don’t understand infrasound, but apparently it affects the human body in some very amazing (and frightening) ways. Glad you made it out of that situation.

I’m 10 miles west of Bonaparte and noticed odd things on my property which brought me to this site. Last winter my daughter came running downstairs telling me there’s a big bear walking in the woods she saw from her window. We don’t have bears in SE Iowa. Then a couple weeks later while hunting from a ground blind I heard someone yell, “Hey!” which sounded like it came no more than 30 yards to my right and just behind me. Nobody is on my land, it was creepy as hell. My first thought was a poacher walked in and was trying to see if I was in my blind but there was nobody in my timber. Absolute silence in the woods when something yelled then nothing because I swung around and looked out of my blind instantly. I yelled back, who the hell are you, and nobody was there. Whoever or whatever it was that yelled was clear as could be but I watched and scoped all around and saw nothing. At the time I was looking for a man in camo or plain clothes so my focus was to pick a man out in the timber. Looking back now if there was something other than a 6ft tall man figure my eyes just wouldn’t have picked it out. Tree breaks and twists throughout my timber just off our trails I brushed off as wind damage look more like markers now that I walk back through. Not saying it’s anything but mother nature at work but I can say something yelled at me when I was in my ground blind then fell totally silent and somehow blended in with the trees and underbrush unlike anything I’ve seen before. That with my daughter freaking out that a bear was walking through our timber she could see from her 2nd story window have me paying more attention when in the woods. Not enough to keep me out of my timber but I will say I’m much more vigilante when working or hunting out there.
