Janson Media writes “Explore the mysterious world of crop circles by examining these enigmatic patterns and symbols found across the world. Take flight above sacred sites like Silbury Hill and Avebury and listen to tales of massive circles forming in minutes before eyewitnesses and see the evidence for yourself.”

So they have officially been happening for 45 years, and have evolved from simple small circles to elaborate geometric patterns and surely have some kind of message to them that may be able to be decoded. Back in the 1990s the crop circles were talked about often in the news. I got most of my information from Chuck Harder’s For the People, syndicated radio program and Art Bell at night. British journalist Collin Andrews was one of the go to people on this phenomenon. And then the typical happened. Two British bar lizards came out claiming they were behind the circles. 60 minutes may have done a segment on them, I just can not remember, but it was widely reported. They went out in a field and stomped down a 10 foot circle with boards and rope to measure from the middle. Actually, a very simple procedure. So as far as the clueless media was concerned – Case Closed we have the answer. In the meantime, these circles popped up in the wheatfields of North America and other places – so these two bar blokes were busy fellows. And the patterns got more and more elaborate, better than my childhood toy, a Spirograph. And investigation into the real circles showed that the wheat nodules structure was changed, as if by microwave radiation. This was not the case in human made circles. Cameras set up on top of hills at night recorded orbs and in the morning a new crop circle was born. However, the clueless media was already satisfied, and the crop circle phenomena was not reported anymore, except on Coast to Coast Am and such programs.

As a kid in the early 1970s we had small “circles” in our back field, at the time the farmer who owned and planted the field would accuse me and my buddies of laying down his hay and also in other years his alfalfa. We had no idea what caused it and we tried to figure it out / sometimes we’d sit on the tin roof that covered the kitchen and gave us a clear 180 degree elevated view of the back field and hills and sky. But we never did see snd thing make them and my Dad said it was probably deer – even though the farmer said “no deer made those – it was you boys!” And thinking back he must have known they did not have a natural looking shape. He was not a mean guy, his son taught me how to drive a tractor and I worked as a kid on his farm shoveling out the barn stanchons and helping with haying and bailing in the Fall. I think he just thought my buddies got me into trouble! It was not until years later I realized those “circles” were just like small versions of some of the big crop circles. I never heard of crop circles until the late 70s or early 80s. We did live in a very unusual area as far as paranormal and “stranger things” are concerned. An old Indian settlement from the 1400s called Pony Hollow (From Indian whaponee tribe I believe) and is located in Newfield Township in New York just about a 35 minute drive south of Ithaca on Old Elmira Road now Rte 13. The original section of Our farmhouse was built as a mill in the 1830s and an artesian spring flowed from a basement wall and drained into a silver dollar size hole in the dirt floor. It flowed mostly as a slight trickle all year round. In the late 1960s there was what the media reported as a “flap” of UFO sightings and other paranormal events witnessed by about 100 or more people – Project blue book was called on and Hynack stated he was certain people witnessed something but he could not be certain what that something was! …and a magazine Science and mechanics, I think, ran a series of articles at the time 1966 and 67 I think. And although my folks and I moved to Los Angeles in 1977 when I was 14, I understand the area is still very “active”. We did see fantom beams of light in the back field often, especially in the Autumn months. I think they were connected to those designs in the crops. My family has many memories of events while we lived in pony hollow, and most are find ones. I enjoyed the interview, thank you – Mark from Upland, California.
