A Light Appears, Just A Round Ball

A listener writes “In 2016 i was hunting on property in Ithaca, NY. It was Cornell college lands. They have lands all around the area in NY. To get permission to hunt you pass a back ground check, there is a site reservation system to sign up to hunt the day you want, limited number of people per spot. I’d been hunting this all season during archery. Never saw another hunter in the woods or signed up. I had a big buck on camera, i saw once during archery. So come opening day of gun season i decided i was going to get into my tree stand about 2.5 hours before daylight, I was hunting alone. I don’t usually go in this early.

This morning was cold, crisp, windless, clear skies. The trees had lost all their leaves, and it was crunchy. You could not move silently in this, it was one of those mornings you can hear a deer coming a long way off. I knew the woods would be loud, which is why i went in early. I didn’t want that buck to hear me 30 min before daylight. I make the 200-250 yard hike to my stand. I made a ton of noise hiking in. I got into my climbing stand and got up to height, pull my gun up and get settled in. Im there about 30 min, just listening to the silence. Not a sound anywhere. So calm not even a leaf rustle. I was just smoking a cigarette looking ahead. The moon was out and once my eyes adjusted i could see pretty good by moonlight. About 40-50 yards away a light appears. Just a round ball, softball size or so it looked from my distance. Pops up right in front me. It sits still for a second, then starts to move slowly left to right at the same height off the ground for about 20-30 yards getting a little faster then turns headed directly away from me, takes off like a rocket and then nothing. Just gone.

I know this was not a person. I know this was not a flashlight. A guy with a flashlight the beam is all over. Up, down, left, right, moving with the persons arm as is swings. This did none of that. just appears, moves same height, i remember the glow of light on the trees, then gone like a rocket and that was it. I sat there staring for a long time. My stand was just near the top of a hill, i chose this spot for the fact i could see pretty far for woods in the northeast, 75-100yards easy. I’ll tell you i stared in that direction for another 1.5 hour or more and not a single anything. Not a sound. Not a light, Not a hunter. My stand faced that direction, it was easy to focus on it. Once the woods started waking up i could hear squirrels in the leaves all over. There was no way that light was a person. It is not possible for no sound to be made by a hunting moving that fast.”

Very good description on the difference between these strange lights and a flashlight.
After this past weeks episode, I’ll always remember that sasquatch grabbing towards the lights ????

Hey, my hometown! Nice, had something happen to me as a young boy. Growling from something in the wood line. A growl not possible from the animals in this area, deep guttural and Neverending! It’s what drives my fascination of the Harry man or woman to this day! Great description!

I am 59. I grew up in Ithaca and my folks owned a farmhouse way out on Rte13 near county line road. We had gorges in the area and our house was once a saw mill but when the State Hywy Dept moved the creek for the road in 1950s the house was no longer on the creek. It was built about 1830. Same family owned it until just before my folks bought it. It had an artesian spring that ran down the north wall of cellar and drained into a small hole in dirt floor. We had a lot of odd experiences in the house, and on the property and area in general. A UFO Flap was well reported in a magazine in 1966-7 and Hynak and his team came to Newfield to investigate – among his official findings he recorded “these people experienced something…” and there were at least 100 people at that town meeting. We moved to the farm in 1968-9. I used to see what I called the tree people, and hiking as a kid I’d “hear” them talk to me. I was never ever afraid in the woods hiking. Matter of fact I felt protected and safe. The old barn was a scary place. My mom and I both saw red eyes peering out from behind the second story hay door on several occasions. I had a “ball” appear from over the west hills and swoop down over my head about 5 foot above my head and my mom and older brother saw this but I could not hear them yelling at me on my bike in the driveway… I had my back to them. I felt “weird” and all the hair on my head was on end and my nose started running and I got dizzy putting my feet on ground I looked back and saw my family running toward me… that ball took off to the East and got real big as it dropped behind the hill. I saw it then but I did not see it over me or when it approached – I still recall that like yesterday. That house has changed since we lived there, and that old beaten down barn still hides in the thick trees and bushes – it was falling down in the 1970s! A brother of the great grand uncle of our neighbor died in the barn when his brother pulled up on the hay fork to pull hay up through the floor shoot onto the second floor, the hook slipped and ripped off the front of his face and forehead. He died there. We were told that story a week before we moved from the farm. I think it explained some of the cold and ominous feelings in the barn but not those red eyes – that was something different and very scary… it felt like those eyes went right through us. We moved to Southern California in 1977. I went back in 2017 and the area still has a haunted feeling in places. Almost a lonely foreboding feeling that seems to call out to me to this day.
