A listener writes “Long ago, when I was about 15 or 16, a group of 4 friends and I went to the power lines, near my home, to hang out on a wood chip pile that was left from the clearing done by the power company making way for their high tension towers.

It was about 11 pm and as we headed back, to go home, when I heard some movement in the woods just off the dirt road, to my right. I turned just in time to see a large, bi-pedal figure stride across the road, in only 2 steps, and heard it enter the woods, snapping branches as it traveled, just seconds later. The span was about 100 feet of clearing, between the dirt road and the wood line, but it only took it a few seconds to make the distance. Though it wasn’t a fully moonlit night, the silhouette was clearly obvious but, unfortunately, only I saw it; the other guys were too busy chatting as we walked.

I asked if anyone else heard the racket and my friend, Dave, said yes but he didn’t see anything. Others said the same.The noise it made could not be ignored. What makes my skin crawl is that, for years, I used to run the trails in these woods, day and night, often barefoot, several times a week. Sometimes I hunted squirrels or rabbits, sometimes I just ran the trails out of boredom. This occurred in the early 70’s and happened in East Bridgewater, MA. There’s a place called the Hockomock Swamp, in the Bridgewater Triangle*, that’s had its’ share of weird occurrences but the swamp, itself, is miles away.

I just wanted to thank you, once again, for bringing these stories forward. Now I can stop doubting my suspicions.”
