A listener writes “Wes, I have been a listener for about a year now. Thank you for all the work you put into creating such a great show.
I would like to share an experience that my parents and I had back in the late 1979s. I was only 4 or 5 when this happened. It was traumatic enough that I still remember some of the details, and I remember the emotions.
My parents are very down to earth type of people. They both had families that took them rustic camping when they were young. They were familiar with wildlife. They had encountered black bear, deer, and even moose when they camped in Canada.
My parents wouldn’t talk about it when I was growing up. If I asked about what happened, they would just tell me it was a farmer running around at night. It took them 30 years to open up about what they saw. And when they did open up, then they couldn’t stop talking about it. For a couple years it was the main thing they wanted to talk about when I saw them. It was like they had to get it off their chest. Later on, I found out that is how people act when they have a critical stress incident. They told me the story over and over.
Here is what happened. We were headed over to my grandma’s house in the evening. The weather was bad, it was raining pretty hard. They saw a large black humanoid shape run up the ditch, across the road in front of them, and back down the ditch on the other side. They call it “the creature.” My dad slammed on the brakes, and that got my attention. I couldn’t see anything because i was little. I heard my parents talking about what they should do, why would someone be out there in a night like this, and if that person needed help. Then they got really scared. I remember one of them saying “Lets get the hell out of here!”
My grandma’s house wasn’t very far from where my parents saw “the creature” cross the road. We got there, rushed inside, and told her what happened. They locked all the doors. My mother and I went upstairs and watched out the window for anything strange. My grandma had a yard light that lit up the side of the house. My dad and grandma called the local police, the state police, and even the prisons to see if anyone had escaped.
Nothing else strange happened that night. But the incident had a large effect on me. It started my curiosity for the paranormal. I wish I had been paying attention and saw “the creature!”

The picture above looks like a Cro-Magnon man (us), which supposedly came after the neanderthal (them).
