A creature running away on two legs after pushing a tree over

A listener writes “I wrote you a couple months back about a sighting my son and I had here in Burlington, CT back in 2005 that involved a creature running away on two legs after pushing a tree over behind us as we were walking down a trail. It was the first of a few encounters we had but the only full blown sighting.

Anyway I found this bear cub in the woods this morning where all the activity happened. Looks to me like it had one ifs back legs pulled clean off.  No other sign of injuries beyond that but I’m neither a vet nor a forensics expert so I could be wrong.

I have read reports that state these creatures kill deer by ripping their hind legs off and that is what seeing this little bear here dead this morning reminded me of. Could be nothing but figured Id pass it along all the same.”

Wonder if Wildlife people were called about it. They would probably check for tracks etc., and whether the cub was alone or not as well as forensics. If they were called… well, we’d probably never hear the results anyway. You would think something would have scavenged the body though… Very interesting.

A co-worker of mine showed me a picture on his phone a few weeks ago of an adult 300 plus pound black bear ripped in half through the lumbar or waist area. The bottom half of the bear was gone. The top half had been carried and dropped in place, not dragged along the ground. Also the bears head was twisted around backwards. I asked him if he could get me the head as I wanted to skin it out and determine if there was a fist blow on top of the skull. He said no, not possible as this happened 4 years ago on his property in SW Colorado. He has also had trees pushed over and neighbors have had tracks around their home where something was looking in windows.
One of his neighbors was backing a pickup truck in his driveway one night and backed into a tree, except there was no tree and whatever he backed into tore a canvass camper and frame off of his pickup.
He also has photos of several log structures on his property. He says these things migrate through his property in the Fall every 2 or 3 years on their way to lower country for the winter.

Wow, that’s some pretty amazing strength to do that to a bear. I’m reminded of a story where some people in Canada or Alaska perhaps that where night fishing in a boat on this river and they see a huge brown bear just standing there on shore in their spotlight. After watching the bear for over a minute Sudd this brown bear starts acting very nervous and agitated then takes of up the bank and away from something coming down to the river, so they shine the light up to see what this was and there stands a Sasquatch. If brown bears are afraid of them that says something about these creatures awesome power, truly an Apex predator.
