A listener writes “Hi Wes, I had a very strange experience in May of 2016 which eventually led me to your show and the topic of Bigfoot.
In 2015 my brother purchased a hunting camp north east of Syracuse at the foot hills of the Adirondack mountains. My entire family is avid hunters and we were excited to have a new camp to go to. I currently live south of rochester NY.
In May of 2016 my brother, his friend and my son and I went to his camp for a spring Turkey hunt. His camp is right next to a couple hundred acres of state land. We spent the friday night at camp and Saturday morning went out for a hunt. The four of us proceeded to an area in the dark and split up into two groups. I took my 14 yr old son with me and we hunted first light. The hunt was uneventful and at 9am we decided to move back up hill and meet my brother and his friend on top of a ridge and come up with a new game plan. It was a nice morning, sunny and 60 degrees out. As my son and I walked back up hill through the woods we were stopped in our tracks by a loud noise, like someone hitting a tree with a 2×4. It was not natural. I have hunted 20 years in the woods and never experienced this. The noise was about 80 yards to our right (north). We were traveling east.
It was definitely made by someone or something. My son and I were taken back and I joked it was a tree knock since we used to watch Bigfoot shows together. I could not see anything so we started walking again and it happened again but not as loud. The second time bothered me because it felt intelligent and like it was responding to us walking again. I shrugged it off and we continued walking to meet my brother at the top of ridge a couple hundred yard away. When we met up with my brother and his friend they immediately asked us if we were the ones making the loud noise. They heard it too and were confused as to what it was. We explained it wasn’t us and they thought we were joking. The noise was so unusual all of us were searching for an answer. We moved to a different area to hunt and they rest of day was uneventful.
A few months later my son and I found your podcast and began listening. I never knew so many people have had experiences all over the United States. Over the next 2 years we had a couple other strange experiences. In September 2017 I was at his camp for a bear hunt and before the main group arrived myself and a friend went for an ATV ride. We found an old abandoned trailer and got off our ATVs to investigate. It was around 6pm in evening. We heard an owl hooting like 40 yards away over small ridge. My buddy started hooting back goofing around. The owl responded back but then I heard like excited monkey sounds in multiple locations over the ridge and I was shocked. We did not discuss the sounds since I work with my buddy and didn’t want to mention Bigfoot. I suggested we head back to camp but it was honestly disturbing.
I love the outdoors and would rather not believe that Bigfoot exists but I cannot discount what happened. I am active duty in the military so I do not discuss this really with anyone except my wife, son and brother. I do not want to be ridiculed or have my career jeopardized. This is an interesting experience though and I wanted to share with you.”

I have a camp east of Syracuse surrounded by woods and lakes and have often wondered if these creatures travel through here as it seems ideal (but not in winter). Wondering if this encounter is in the Boonville/Forestport area…checking BFRO for any history.
Chris H
It is boonville area

I betcha you were going up to ‘their old abandoned trailer’ to investigate ?

Barred owl in New England make sounds like monkeys, I call them in and they go crazy in fall time. You wouldn’t believe that it’s owls but pretty sure more times than not, it is. Not to say they can smash logs against trees or the other things that happened which are likely some kind of primate, human or otherwise. Thanks for sharing.

I’d rather it be owls. Good info thanks

Interesting ……and confusing. If you are traveling east, north is to your left side and south is on your right side. Was he lost?
Chris H
Actually traveling west. Mistyped that

Thanks Chris.
