It Gruffed At Him

A listener writes “My husband and I were doing yard work. It was a late summer evening in the six o’ clock hour. I had finished mowing and he was cleaning up our fence line that faces an alcove of thick trees, bushes, and vines that tend to crawl through the holes in our fence.

Note: he always wears headphones when doing yard work. I had went upstairs to sit on the front porch as I always do afterwards while he finished up. About 5-10 minutes after being up there I’d say, he called me. I could tell something was wrong based on the tone of his voice. My husband is a paramedic and only says the word “serious” when it’s necessary based off of that. He said, “Hey, can I ask you a question? Do Bigfoot come out in the daytime?” My reply was well yeah, I mean, you hear all the time of day time sightings, why? He said, Because I think I just saw one. But also thinking back now, it was getting dusk which is typical of them coming out. Anyway, he goes on to tell me, that while he was fiddling with the line on the weed eater, that he had this urge to look up. I would personally say, it could’ve been internally, he sensed something there.

So he looked up and he said that standing a little way in front of him, was something big, black, and tall staring at him. He said it gruffed at him and was gone. He said the whole encounter lasted seconds. He said in his opinion, it was definitely an animal however, it was certainly not a bear and certainly not a deer. In that area opposite our fence, it very thick. No person would be able to walk in it. There’s briars and it’s just not easy terrain and no way to tell tracks.

He asked me to stay back there with him while he finished up and said, I’m serious, he said I don’t feel comfortable standing back here alone. My husband is 6’1 and weighs 289. I, on the other hand, am 5’4 and a little bit and I weigh 140. So for him to ask me to stay for security purposes was weird in itself. It was just more comforting to not be alone in that instance. When I went down there, I used the camera on my phone to line up with the tree he said he saw it at. I’m horrible at distance so all I can tell you is that I zoomed my camera as far as I could to get a closer view of where it was at. Now what I forgot to mention is when I was outside in the front, before he called me, I heard a clear vocalization, you know, the octave change call they do. It sounded extremely close.

Ever since that day, around the same time every night, our black lab freaks out to come inside. Our yellow lab, constantly barks at that fence or did in that stretch of time. With it being winter now, all of our trees in that area are barren with no leaves or coverage. So we haven’t had any incidents since winter has come. Hunter, our black lab, still incessantly barks to come in however, at 6 every night.”

I’ve thought about that myself, it should be mandatory for the storyteller to tell where they had their experience ( National parks, home states, etc.) It’s not like the listener is going to knock on their door or anything. Give people a heads up!
