A Dark Figure Staring Back At Me

A listener writes “When I was nine years old I used to go woodcutting around north Eastern Oregon with mt grandparents.

We would usually go early in the morning before the sun was too far up in the sky. Sometimes when we went woodcutting we would fill my grandpa’s truck and trailer and my uncle’s truck and trailer and whoever else went, so If there was a few rigs and trailer’s to fill we stayed overnight and camp out.

We set out early one morning to go woodcutting with my grandparents and my Aunt and uncle and my two cousin’s. Sometimes I fell asleep on the way up to the places we went. I woke up as the truck came to a slow stop and slowly got out and look around.

Theres alot of those rock bluffs or outcropping of rocks around in the mountains here. I liked to go exploring them as everyone was getting tools out, sharpen the blades on the saws, set up camp. The sun had gotten a little ways up and was kinda in my face but i ran off to explore them.

As it was in the background I saw another rock bluff and ran towards where I could see it and run up a slight hill towards the bluff. I got about 40/50 yards from it and stopped dead in my tracks….I was in sheer amazement at what I saw peek over the top of the rock bluff…I never seen anything like this before….I blinked and just stared at the dark figure staring back at me.

It was dark completely and I couldn’t see the face very well but i knew it was no bear, deer, buffalo, elk or anything like that.

My nine year mind was racing, it ducked behind the bluff and then peaked around the right side at me for a second then ducked back behind the bluff.

I didn’t know how long we stared at each other but i heard my grandpa yell” BRUCE,time to get started” i yelled back “You guys there’s something over here” come over here quick! Then he said “you can play later, time to get started.” When you’re nine years old you dont argue with adults or at least I was taught not to argue.

So with that I took one more look and ran back to the camp site. I tried to explain what I saw and my grandma said “oh silly it was probably a goat.” I replied with” NOOO it wasn’t a goat it didn’t have horns and nooo it wasn’t a bear, deer, elk or anything else I ever saw!” We can talk about it later ok? Ok grandma.”
