The Brown Mountain Lights

A listener writes “Hey Wes! I just discovered your show a few months ago. I’ve been listening as much as possible and am fascinated by some of these accounts.

I’ve never thought I had any kind of encounter that would be worth reaching out until I was literally just listening to episode 596 where the gentleman on the ranch in Arizona was having encounters. I have not had what I would consider a true Sasquatch or Bigfoot encounter but I do have an even better account of the colored lights he described while he and his friend were camping. There is an area of the NC mountains that have a phenomenon known as The Brown Mountain Lights. I have two first hand encounters, the only two times I have gone to try to see them. But my parents and grandparents have encounters also.

They are also fascinating in that they seem to be random lights that can appear above the mountain, on the sides of the valley, and can be stationary or moving. A US geological survey was done in I think 1922 to try and figure out what was happening. Their explanation was train lights. But I can assure you, this is no man made phenomenon. I think it could be completely natural, and not necessarily paranormal, but it’s certainly not from anything humans have done.”
