A listener writes “I am 51 yrs old now, been married, have two children, two grandkids, divorced and now semi retired. Was born in Washington DC. Then when I was 4 (1971) moved to northern Virginia when my parents built a new house. This encounter happened in early October 1975 when I was 8 years old.
We lived in Woodbridge, in a very afulent neighborhood called Featherstone Shores. It was a fairly new neighborhood, right on the Occaquan Bay. We had our own beach and it was a great place to grow up. The neighborhood was at the northern end of leesylvania state park, which thick forest covered most of the area , there were tidal ponds and one lake and several swampy areas. My parents learned about this walking path which was over two miles thru the forest that ended at this secluded lake called ” Hidden Lake”. One afternoon my mom invited my best friend’s mom to go on a walk with her and that they could take the kids( myself and best friend). She said yes. So off us four went on our walk. Being little kids my friend and I were always poking around either ahead of our moms or behind them running and laughing and making a lot of noise. Then about an hour into our walk we were finally getting close to the lake. The trees were so tall and thick they blocked out the sun. We were about 5 mins from the lake on this winding trail through the woods when our mom’s stopped and my mom said what was that noise? Friend’s mom didn’t hear it and neither did us kids but then , so loud it made us all jump there was this thump. You could feel it in the ground. Then about a min later we all heard it again only this time it was twice real quick like a heart beat. Only loud.
We stood there for about 10 mins and it kept doing it only it got faster and closer. Then all of a sudden through the trees you could see something big, dark brown or black in color moving towards us. You couldn’t see what it was, but it was big. Our mom’s grabbed our hands and we started walking back home. The faster we walked, you could hear it in the trees coming towards us faster. After a min or so we were running and you could hear it chasing us. We were only about a hundred yards or so in front of it and we got to the train bridge over a small pond. It was a big bridge big enough for two tracks. Amtrak and the freight lines had high speed trains running about every hour so we made sure we didn’t hear any trains and ran across the bridge and you could still hear it chasing us and we made it across the bridge and got off the tracks and you could still hear it coming but then a train came roaring by and when it passed we looked back across the bridge and there stood this thing.
All hairy except for it’s head which looked like a wolf. Then it actually stood on two legs and from a stationary stance took two steps feel back to all four legs and jumped the double tracks. About 40 to 50 feet in one jump. We heard that noise again this time going away from us. We all ran home and never went back. Never saw it again either but we really never ever went back down there. We we too scared. It looked so mean and evil it makes my skin crawl just thinking about it. My best friend and I met up before my family moved to Minnesota and I suggested we go back. Now that we were both in our twenties we were too scared to go. It was terrifying. The whole time growing up there we never saw it again.
That’s about it. Of course if we talked I could tell alot more detail.
We have never told many people about this but felt compelled to by you’re show. Thanks for your time!”

Wow! So frightening, I want to hear more about this chase. Thanks…

Wow! That was near my stomping grounds from 1985 to 1990 and we used to camp near the Occoquan! To think that a dogman was in the region, should I have been concerned at the time?
