A listener writes ” First, I had an experience roughly 6 years ago, and that’s how I found your show. Love the show by the way. My family owns a 160 acre farm and I’m an avid archery hunter. I should say that I WAS an avid archery hunter with complete archery equipment. I don’t like to go in the woods any more because of this encounter. Prior to this experience I would hear strange noises while hunting that I could never explain.
The noises often would accompany a feeling of uneasiness, kind of like the feeling of being watched. I’ve spent a lot of time in the woods and have only had experiences on the family farm. My experience is that I was roared at.
A roar is the best description I can use, it was very deep sounding, close, and enormously loud. My nephew, age 12 or 13 at the time, was with me and experienced this with me. We both ran for our lives as soon as it happened. He was crying as we ran. Neither of us seen what roared. We were at the perimeter of the “farm yard” / the area that is mowed around the house and buildings. It was Easter and everyone was at the farm for the holiday, there’s roughly 30 family members that had gathered for the holiday. My nephew followed my around and I had let our two house dogs out to pee. One of the dogs likes to wonder the farm yard and chase farm cats. The dog had gone behind one of the buildings near the shelter-belt and we had gone to call him and we were near the shelter-belt when we were roared at. The dog tucked his tail and ran as fast as I’ve ever seen him run as well. The roar came from the shelter-belt.
Anyways, that’s my experience.”
