Sasquatch Chronicles

Strange Events Around A Small Town

A listener writes “I lived in a small town called Twisp Washington and the first incident happened between 1980-1983. My father was the Chief of police and one night I was awoken by a car pulling into our driveway with the car horn blaring and the passengers were yelling and I think I remember the sound of the car sliding or screeching into the driveway.

Anyway, we didn’t lock our house doors at the time and they just ran into the house still screaming and yelling. My father and I went down stairs with weapons to see what the heck was happening. It was our neighbors (husband and wife) who lived a block or so away. They said they were parked at war creek (a campground up Twisp river) and a lion man tried to get in their car. That’s like a 20+ minute drive? The whole thing was quite weird, almost like the thing followed them all they way to our house.

I had the impression that the thing was like materializing in and out of their car…it was strange. I don’t recall my parents ever discussing it again. I heard, somehow, that the police went up there and didn’t find tracks etc. I know some other people that saw a lion man close to Twisp but they are still living and I don’t want anyone to be singled out. I also heard a yt story of a camper being attacked at the black pine lake campground. My mom (later in life) said she and my dad went for a drive up Twisp river, when I was in high school and a bigfoot crossed the road but they never told me at the time, plus my mom said she saw one when she was a kid.

Trying to get any information out of her was like pulling teeth. One weird thing that she did say once, is my dad went hunting up Twisp river and when he came back he had cancer and it was like his body had just been invaded. He was a smoker and I figured the non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma had caused that. I just found that comment weird. I also remember my mom mentioning there was a teacher that lived up Twisp river who moved cuz the UFO’s kept stopping close above his house. Also my mom had a story of some hunters that brought a bigfoot head to town and she thought it was going to be this huge story but nothing ever became of it.

I think she said that happened when she was a kid and I don’t recall her saying she actually saw the head. I’d have to say there’s something going on up in that area and an effort to keep people out (especially at night) is in force. I have never seen a BF (for certain) but I have always had a passion to see one and figure out what they are all about. I’ve heard the footsteps around the tent but until I actually see one or it’s footprints I will discount it. I did hear what sounded like chest beating but it could have been a grouse etc. I did have a weird incident near a campground called buck creek in Darington Wa.

I decided to follow the trails above the campground and was way out in the middle of nowhere and pitched a one man tent parallel with a huge fallen tree. I was camped above a fairly steep drop off and was close to a small creek too. I was very camouflaged as I put a green camo poncho over the tent. Anyway, just as it got dark, I was in the tent with my dog and I heard whistles. The whistles sounded like a whistle without the ball in it. I remember there were 5 or 6 of them and were somewhat evenly spaced and they whistled in a row. Meaning, one would blow and then the other, all the way down the line then they would start over. If I remember correctly I was in the middle of the row. To say the least, I was a bit scared and strangely enough my dog was wagging her tail and acted like she wanted to go outside the tent. The whistles all sounded a bit different. They sounded nothing like elk.

Just before daybreak they came back up the same way. Later on I researched what else could possible do that and I thought maybe ground hogs? My impression was, it was a hunting party, either driving deer down the hill of they were just whistling to keep their spacing etc. It could be something interesting or nothing at all. If my memory serves me correct there was a place not too far from there called sasquatch falls (there was a sign along the highway) where legend has it the BF hunted by driving deer over the cliffs.”
