A listener writes “It was the fall of 1978 it had to be my older brother was already in the army and I left the spring of 79 for the army.
My younger brother was friends with an elderly Native Americans grandson and got us permission to bow hunt deer in a set of woods nobody was ever allowed in. The old guy said yes and then said I’ll tell him your coming out there so he can leave. Nothing else. The woods were 1/2 mile behind our house so it’d be a quick after school hunt. The next day I’m shooting a pumpkin on a straw bale to practice then looked out at the woods to make a plan.
This very tall dark figure walks out of the corner of the woods right where I planned to sit. Walks into the hay field over to a corn field they all kinds merge right there that’s why I wanted to sit there. This thing is huge it walks up to the corn pulls an ear off shucks and states eating it. My younger brother walks up behind me and says what you looking at I turned to him I don’t know you tell me he looks looks out and says what the heck is that? It ate another corn then walks into the field headed south hold its arms up like when we walk through tall weeds. The corn was only up to this things chest. We watched it walk south until it went over a hill.
We ran inside and told dad what we seen he sat there laughing. The next night the lady that lives at the mike road south end of that field was on the news with the sheriff hold a plaster foot casting. Over the next couple of weeks there were several more news reports in the area. Later that winter the Michigan DNR shot a cow bison then captured her calf from that spring and put it in a zoo wild bison have never lived in Michigan then a year or so later a huge wild hog was shot in the area. I’ve never gone near those woods.”
