The Sykesville Monster is a name given to a mysterious creature reportedly seen around Sykesville and nearby areas of central Maryland during the 1960s and 1970s. It’s one of many regional cryptids animals whose existence has been claimed but not scientifically verified. The best-known wave of sightings occurred in 1973. Witnesses, including motorists and local residents, claimed to have seen a large hairy figure near roads, fields, and wooded areas around Sykesville.
The reports generally described the creature as:
Around 7 feet (2.1 m) tall.
Covered in shaggy gray or white fur.
Having glowing or red eyes.
Walking upright, though sometimes seen moving on all fours.
Emitting strange screams or growls.
Strange Familiars writes “Dan Eckhart stops by to discuss the Sykesville Monster and his possible unperson sighting in the area. The conversation then veers into UFOs, disclosure, mysticism, Belsnickel, and the death of the folkloric Halloween.”
