A listener writes “I am a South Carolina native from the lowcountry (Coastal SC). According to the BFRO there are few documented cases of encounters in the coastal area, but I have had two or three situations that make me suspect that there is more going on here than people admit.
I am a fairly avid hunter and have had one experience of a series of “screams” nearby while deer hunting in Georgetown, SC. The screams convinced me to leave my stand at dusk (Note that I am 6’4″, 245 and had a 7mm deer rifle and a .45 on my hip and felt is best to “Go”).
I had another experience while Turkey hunting in Cades, SC. I heard wood knocks while calling to And stalking a Turkey one evening last spring. I have also seen a “structure” in a local swamp off of the Black River in Georgetown, SC. The structure was a teepee type structure of large trees, all forming a shelter like structure near the area where I heard the screams while Deer hunting.
I also have a friend whose family owns hunting property in Ridgeville SC that backs up onto Hell Hole Swamp. One night they heard what sounded like a woman screaming near some train tracks…in an area that was miles from anywhere and no other people were around. They attributed the screams to a Bobcat…but then later found large footprint tracks around their property.
I am curious to know if you have many reports from the Lowcountry of SC. We have MUCH undeveloped area and I am curious to know if you have had many stories from people in my area of the country who may be reluctant to make BFRO reports.”
