Several skunk ape sightings were reported in Florida between the 1960s and 1980s, prompting a state legislator to sponsor a bill to protect the animal. Even though scientists and wildlife experts long ago concluded that the skunk ape was a figment of human imagination, the legend refuses to die. I have always been intrigued with this report made to the police. If this was a hoax, why stay anonymous? If the witness honestly thought this was an orangutan, why contact the police?
