A listener writes “I was driving home from work at about 4:00 in the morning because I worked the graveyard shift at a local Warehouse driving a forklift and stocking merchandise. I live in Virginia, just outside of Lynchburg in Little Town called Brookneal I was driving down one of the main roads that leads into my town.
The road is called 501 or Lynchburg avenue. About 7 mi from where I live there’s a large Georgia Pacific plant that processes lumber. About a half a mile before I got to that my headlights caught something on the side of the road. At first I thought it was a bear because it was just standing on all fours on the side of the road and it was kind of crouched down. Almost like it was laying down but not quite and I couldn’t see any face or anything so it looked like it was looking across the road and not at me. Then as I got closer I slowed down and I could see it look at me and I could see the eye shine which was a greenish yellow color. I couldn’t see any specific features of the face and I didn’t see a snout which kind of caught my attention because I expected to see a snout since I thought it was a bear as it looked at me. It started slowly moving its way into the road and then all of a sudden it stood up on on two legs and started to cross the road. If I had to guess I would say it was about 6 and 1/2 ft tall on two legs. At this point I was going about 25 mph and was slowing down even more (the speed limit is 55). So this thing was about maybe 300 feet away from me, maybe less. And I really couldn’t make out any features. I couldn’t see any features of the face except for the eye shine. When it looked at me it looked and glanced at me again real quick when it got into the middle of the road and then it darted off towards the other side of the road and it ran off into the bush and I didn’t see it again.
Once I got to where it had crossed the road I stopped and I had My pistol in my lap loaded and cocked. Not that it would really do anything against a large bear or a Sasquatch if that’s what this thing was. I looked on either side and got my flashlight out and shined it on either side of the road out the windows to see if I could see anything but I didn’t see anything. I looked down into the ditch on either side of the road to see if maybe there was some roadkill that this thing was eating but I did not see anything. There are a lot of deer that get killed on this road because a lot of trucks use it to get between Lynchburg and South Boston, so I thought maybe it was eating a dead deer
To go into more description of what the creature looked like I can’t really give much as I didn’t really see much as it was dark and I got a really quick glance. The whole thing lasted maybe 20 seconds at the most but what I did see was this creature had black hair. It was longer than what I would think a bear would have. Especially when it stood up. I could see the hair kind of hanging down off of what I thought were the arms. When it stood up from that kind of crouching or lying down position, it kind of just almost bounced straight up. It didn’t use its arms to help leverage itself to stand up at all. It just kind of bounced straight up and that’s when it looked at me and that’s when I saw the eye shine and then that’s when it started crossing the road and when it got to the middle of the road it looked at me again and then it darted off towards the right.
When I got home that night I couldn’t sleep at all. I laid in bed and thought about it for hours. I kept wanting to maybe go back to that spot and see if I could see anything but I was too scared. I pass that spot twice a day, Five times a week when I go to work and every time I’ve passed it since I get chills every time I go to work now and when I come home I am constantly darting my eyes back and forth back and forth from one side of the road to the other thinking that I’m going to see something again. It has really changed my whole perspective on Sasquatch because I’ve always believed in them. But now that I think that I’ve seen one, I have a whole new perspective on these creatures.”
