A photograph rumored to show a previously unknown fighter jet flying over Area 51 has been circulating widely online.
Few locations in the world are as famously secretive as Area 51, the remote Nevada desert facility long associated with tales of reverse-engineered alien technology and the testing of cutting-edge “black projects” known only to a select few.
That reputation may be partly justified, as a recently shared image allegedly captures an unidentified prototype aircraft spotted above the base.
The photo first surfaced on June 3 via the Project Fear YouTube channel before quickly spreading across social media platforms.
Although it would be easy to dismiss the image as a hoax, several analysts believe it could be authentic and may depict a legitimate classified aircraft program.
Some speculate the jet could be the F-47, the U.S. Air Force’s proposed sixth-generation fighter.
