A listener writes “I’ve lived in South East Texas for the majority of my life. You, knowing Bob Garrett, and going into the Sam Houston National Forrest, I’m sure you know the area.
At a young age, 5-6 years old, I was playing with toys cars and things that a young boy would be doing, on the back porch of our house. Suddenly I heard a noise (something snapping a twig or branch) that got my attention. When I look up, at the edge of our property, there was a creature. Upright. Hairy. Reddish/brown hair, charcoal colored skin. Locking eyes with me. I can’t determine in hindsight what size it was, only that it was taller than my father (5’11”). It had an elongated snout, nostrils similar to a baboon. Very visible canines, long matted hair, and I was whimpering when I saw it.
It had a nervous look about it. Darting eyes left to right (as if you or I were to stumble on a bear cub, the only way I can relate it) I was within sprinting distance of the back door and bolted for it. Taking one last glance coming in, seeing it throw its leg up to bound over a fallen tree in some unnatural movement for a human.”
