Encounters In Kentucky

A listener writes “We have had several strange occurrences during the past two years. The following have been occurring:

Our dogs in our kennel have been barking non-stop all night, every night for the past year up to about 3 weeks ago (see below).

On one occasion, one dog kennel (chain link fencing) was smashed in as if a bear or other large creature had tried to get at the dogs. We have had bear sightings in the past two years. However, that bear was shot and killed by a local farmer about 1 1/2 years ago (prior to this incident). No other bear activity since that time to our knowledge.

Our next door neighbors have also heard whoops and other odd noises. The gentleman that lives there is a true frontier-style woodsman and has lived on the land all his life. As an avid hunter and outdoorsman, he is extremely familiar with the land and surrounding properties. These are noises he is unfamiliar with and has never heard on the property before.

My wife and I have heard whistles, whoops, grunts, and tree knocking. Upon arriving home one evening, there was a very loud tree knock as we exited our vehicle. We have heard what sounds like two men having a muffled conversation behind our home a few times. Often, after dark specifically, there is an occasional wet dog/skunky smell in the air and noises in the surrounding woods.

Our motion sensor lights have been tripping almost nightly (until 3 weeks ago). On the property and surrounding properties, there are large rock formations that are tall and deep enough for animal dens.

Prior Sightings / Experiences:

When my husband was a teenager (1990s), he was out running the woods as he often did. He saw a hairy creature squatting on a rock looking over a creek area near several deer trails. His sighting lasted approximately 30 seconds. The creature seemed to pay no attention to him.

While turkey hunting in 2016, my husband was in his blind. There was a repetitive noise like a water droplet into a puddle sound that occurred for over 30 minutes. We thought it could possibly be a bird and listened to several bird sounds but could find nothing that sounded like what he heard. There had been no rain for several days, no puddles, and no dripping water near him. He heard movement in the woods behind him, which could have been a deer, but he did not see any deer during his time in the woods that day. Additionally, it sounded bipedal as if it were another hunter, but too loud to have been a hunter unless they were just not a good hunter lol. Uncertain that this is anything worthy of reporting, but we were listening to one of the internet radio shows and the guest talked about this plopping sound with his squatch encounter, so I wanted to mention it in case it was relevant.

2/9/19:

For the past week, every night when we get home (approx.: 11pm – 3am), within about 15-20 minutes, there is a strong skunk smell that occurs. We have seen skunks from time to time in the area, but none within the past few weeks. There have been no noises associated with this and we still have not seen anything.

2/11/19:

We were leaving the house around 5:00 am. It was still dark. There was a musky smell in the air. As we were loading things into the car, we heard a single, loud, tree knock.

5/2/19

I was burning some brush outside around 8:00 pm. The dogs started barking (going nuts). There was a noise like a deer being jumped and running through the brush in the woods behind the neighbor’s house. The “squatch” came from behind the house, and in a few strides, crossed the yard at a run; crossed the road and jumped down into the creek. There is a dust to dawn light, so the yard was illuminated.

My husband came out about that time, but did not hear anything. I told him to get his gun. It definitely was bipedal and moved too fast to be a bear. But the thought of “what if it was a dogman instead” prompted me to request he get a firearm. Nothing further occurred.

5/9/19
My husband had to retrieve something from our vehicle and when I stepped onto the porch, my light reflected eyeshine. I could not see anything further because my light was not that powerful beyond the eyeshine. I estimate that he stood any where from 7′ to 8′ tall. Sighting lasted about 10 seconds.

I would like your opinion, is a possible footprint we discovered. There were other areas matted down in footprint form which measure matched the one in the picture attached. However, they did not translate well in the photos. We did a plaster cast.”
