Dogman Narratives: First Dogman Sighting

In Michigan folklore, the Dogman was first witnessed in 1887 in Wexford County, Michigan. The creature is described as a seven foot tall, amber-eyed bipedal canine-like animal with the torso of a man and a fearsome howl that sounds like a human scream. The story stems from Native American myth, but has become more widely known in the past ten years. In 1987 disc jockey Steve Cook in Traverse City, Michigan recorded a song titled “The Legend”. After the song aired, on the radio, the station started to receive calls for many witnesses. Some say that the Dogman appears every ten years that fall with the last year ending in 7. What are the causes of these sightings? A large wolf or something more sinister? This episode features two dogman encounters. The first encounter is the first ever reported dogman sighting. The second take place in the early 1990’s in Luther, Michigan.
