Sasquatch Chronicles

Class B Sasquatch Encounter Report — Southern Oregon, July 18–19, 2026

An interesting report from a listener from Oregon.

LOCATION

The encounter occurred in the Cascade Mountains of far southern Oregon, approximately 23 miles due east of Medford, near Howard Prairie and Hyatt Lakes, on July 18–19, 2026. Several people experienced a series of behaviors commonly associated with Bigfoot/Sasquatch, which, taken together, amount to what I would characterize as a Class B encounter.

SITUATION

We were attending a Christian mountain camp that our church rents for one weekend each year. This was our fourth consecutive year at this location, with approximately 120 people attending the three-day, two-night campout.

People stayed throughout the expansive camp property in campers, tents, and teepees. Although the camp is remote and surrounded by BLM land and the Rogue River National Forest, I had never seriously considered the possibility that we might experience a Sasquatch encounter there.

What happened over the course of the weekend changed that perspective.

BACKGROUND

I am a 51-year-old man who has been intrigued by the folklore surrounding Bigfoot for most of my life. I have enjoyed movies, documentaries, and podcasts on the subject, including Sasquatch Chronicles.

I grew up in western Montana as the son of a logger, and my father and I frequently discussed the possibility that a large, undiscovered North American primate might actually exist.

Today, my 23-year-old adult son and I spend considerable time hiking and backpacking throughout southern Oregon, northern California, and western Montana. Over the years, we have conducted several informal “Sasquatch hunts” for fun while camping or backpacking. We’ve never taken them particularly seriously, however, and until this experience, neither of us had encountered anything that we considered truly unexplained.

I should mention that we have had a few interesting, Sasquatch-like experiences while backpacking in Montana over the years, but nothing remotely comparable to what I am about to describe.

I would describe both my son and myself as people who want to believe in Bigfoot while remaining skeptical. We love the idea of Sasquatch and have spent years discussing theories about its possible origins and nature, but neither of us considers ourselves a true believer.

I am writing this report because, a few weekends ago, my son, I, and several other people who were with us experienced a series of events that closely resemble classic Class B Sasquatch encounters.

REPORT

The First Vocalizations

Around dawn on Saturday, July 18, I was walking my dog when I gave three loud whoops, as I often do when I’m out in the wilderness.

To my surprise, I heard what sounded like three vocalizations in response.

At the time, I immediately dismissed the experience as something that probably had an ordinary explanation. I wondered if I had heard a distant chainsaw or some other mechanical noise that merely sounded like vocalizations.

I thought little more about it.

The Night Hike

Later that night, as part of the camp programming, I led a large group of campers on a night hike.

To make the experience fun and a little frightening I performed a series of tree knocks and Sasquatch-style whoops. This is something I have done every year at this camp.

This year, however, I received an unexpected response.

The group and I heard a series of tree knocks and vocalizations coming back from the woods.

Several people actually assumed that I had secretly placed someone in the distant woods to respond to my knocks and whoops and make the night hike more interesting. I assured them that I had not.

The vocalizations were high-pitched and sounded different from the ones I had heard that morning. Both the knocks and the vocalizations appeared to originate across a large canyon, in the opposite direction from the main camp.

At the same time, the dogs accompanying our group began behaving strangely. They were whining, growling, and generally acting unsettled.

We eventually finished the hike and returned to the central campfire.

The Brothers and the Voice in the Woods

At the campfire, I spoke with two brothers who were staying at the camp. They had been in the same general area where I had conducted the night hike approximately 25 minutes earlier, around dusk.

They were visibly shaken.

Both independently reported hearing what sounded like a small child calling out “Mom” from somewhere in the middle of the forest.

Something about the voice immediately struck both of them as wrong. They described experiencing an intense sense of fear.

They then saw a single light in the woods. It could have been a headlamp or some other conventional light source, although they wondered afterward whether it might have been something more unusual, such as an orb.

Following the child’s voice, the brothers said the forest around them seemed to come alive with movement and sounds coming from multiple directions.

Because they believed they might have heard a lost child, several of us including me returned to the area to make sure no child was actually missing.

We searched the area as best we could in the darkness and then checked with the campers who had young children. No children were missing.

We continued checking with families into the early morning hours of July 19.

At this point, every event could still potentially be explained away.

Perhaps another group of campers had responded to my tree knocks and vocalizations. Perhaps a wild animal had produced a sound that happened to resemble a child calling “Mom.” Perhaps the light had a completely ordinary explanation.

Then something happened that was much more difficult for me to explain.

The Final Search and the Splash

After checking with the families, my son and I felt compelled to walk the night-hike route one more time.

Although I suspected the voice had not actually been a child, I wanted to make sure we had done our due diligence.

As we walked, the forest seemed unusually active. We heard various noises, including what sounded to us like additional tree knocks.

The route was an out-and-back trail. Around the time we turned around to head back toward camp, we began hearing noises below us along a small creek that paralleled the route.

At one point, my son commented that it sounded as though something was paralleling us as we walked along the old, overgrown road.

Eventually, the road opened onto the very edge of the camp property. From there, it follows the shoreline of a small swimming and fishing pond.

As we approached the pond, we suddenly heard an enormous splash very close to where we were walking.

My immediate impression was that something large had entered the water or that a very large object had been thrown into it.

The sound reminded me of a sizable boulder crashing into the pond.

It was approximately 12:30 a.m. By this time, the families had gone to bed, and this particular portion of the camp is not an area where people normally go, especially in the early morning hours.

The instant the splash occurred, my mind began searching for an ordinary explanation.

I couldn’t find one.

My son and I were both frightened, but we immediately turned on our flashlights and began searching for whoever or whatever had caused the disturbance.

We even called out to whoever had thrown the rock and asked them to show themselves.

However, based on the sound of the splash, I believed the object was considerably larger than anything a person could have thrown that distance while remaining completely unseen.

We found nothing.

As we tried to make sense of what had happened, we considered whether a child could have fallen into the pond. I knew from the sound that this did not seem plausible, but we nevertheless circled the pond looking for any conventional explanation.

We found none.

We then walked back to the teepee where the two brothers were staying. We wondered whether they might somehow have managed to throw a large rock into the pond to scare us.

They assured us they had not. In fact, they said they had been far too frightened to leave their teepee.

They also reported that while my son and I were conducting our final search, they continued hearing tree knocks around their location.

Eventually, we concluded our search and went to bed at approximately 2:00 a.m.

The Following Morning

The next morning, my son and I went back through the area in daylight and carefully looked for anything that might provide an explanation for what we had experienced.

We found nothing that resolved the mystery.

As I continued thinking about the events, I remembered hearing about a possible Bigfoot encounter in this same general area the previous fall.

Once I returned to cell-phone range, I searched for the report and discovered an account from approximately nine months earlier, apparently very near our location:

“Oregon Hunter Reports Large Crash in Woods, Believed to Be Bigfoot, Followed by Tree Knocks.”

The similarity was striking enough that I wanted to include it in this report.

CONCLUSION

If any one of these events had happened independently, I could probably dismiss it as coincidence or find a conventional explanation.

A strange vocalization by itself? Easily explainable.

A tree knock? Could be almost anything.

Dogs acting strangely? Dogs do that.

A strange light? There are countless possible explanations.

A voice that sounded like a child calling “Mom”? Wildlife can produce remarkably human-like sounds.

Even the splash could potentially have had an ordinary explanation that we simply failed to identify.

But the fact that all of these things occurred within the same general period and location is what makes the experience so difficult for me to dismiss.

Over the course of several hours, we experienced or witnessed:

  1. Vocalizations
  2. Tree knocks
  3. Dogs behaving fearfully and unusually
  4. Possible vocal mimicry resembling a child calling “Mom”
  5. An unexplained light in the woods
  6. A very large splash that sounded like a large object entering the pond

There are two possibilities that I can see.

Either we were the victims of an extraordinarily elaborate and well-coordinated prank, involving multiple people who somehow managed to remain completely undetected, or we encountered something genuinely unexplained.

I am not claiming that these events prove the existence of Sasquatch. I don’t think the evidence allows me to make that claim.

What I can say is that, taken together, the events were unusual enough that my son and I are eager to return to the area and investigate further.

We are trying to find an opportunity to return as soon as possible, particularly to the public land directly adjacent to the camp. Our plan is to spend a night in the area, document the surroundings, and see whether we can make better sense of what happened.

For two people who have spent years jokingly looking for Sasquatch while hiking and backpacking, this experience was considerably different.

For the first time, we left a trip genuinely wondering whether we had encountered something we couldn’t explain.

OTHER INTERESTING EXPERIENCES

For context, these are several other unusual experiences my son and I have had over the years:
