Location: Heading South into the valley of the Pigeon River on I-43 just North of Sheboygan, WI.
A listener writes “As I crested the edge of the downward slope of the valley in my car I noticed a bright ball of light moving along the edge of and just above the power lines in front of me slightly to the right. I was going about 60 MPH and the ball seemed to be going about 1/2 my speed and following directly over the powerline. The ball was slightly brighter than a streetlight and gave off a consistent dim glow. I over took the ball within just a few seconds, but from the moment I saw it, I knew that it was something strange. there are streetlights in the area and the height of the powerlines is easily 30 feet off the ground. I’ve driven this route at this time literally hundreds of times and I’ve never seen anything like it before or after.
As I caught up to the ball of light and it came into my blind spot due to the roof of the car it veered off along the powerline that goes down the Pigeon River and moved over my car. It was at this moment that the ball of light, seemed to have exploded. The light above my car grew about 5x as bright and there was a sudden burst of static on my radio. I didn’t see the explosion, but I didn’t see it on either side of the valley as I was heading up the ascending side. My radio was out of commission for about 30 seconds before the signal came back in.”
