Dan who is a longtime member writes ” Hi Wes, I live near Mt. Shasta, CA. My first notable experience was around 1984 or 1985. My brother and I were headed to a job he was working around 2 a.m. We stopped at a turnout on Old Stage Road near the Shasta River.
My brother had one of those weird half-van, half-pickup trucks with the engine between the seats. The choke was stuck, so we opened the “doghouse” to manually disengage the choke when the rear of the truck slammed into the ground super hard. Needless to say, we just left in a hurry.
When we got to where we were going, I found partial footprints with toes on the bumper and handprints on the camper shell. They were pretty big, but we just kind of called it a crazy hippie incident.
I used to hunt a lot not so much anymore because I don’t have the time and had a lot of weird stuff happen.
In February 2013, a hunting buddy called me to say he had seen some giant bear tracks from his log truck. Even though California had just banned hunting with dogs, we decided we should run them the following weekend.
The next morning, he called me in distress. Around 3 a.m., he stopped at the tracks because he saw some new ones. With a headlamp, he decided to take a break and check them out. He ended up coming face-to-face with an over-7-foot-tall, hairy creature with yellow eyes that looked extremely pissed off.
Over the years, he’s told me he’s seen several of them standing on ridges in the area around McCloud, CA.
I drove to the south of where the face-to-face encounter happened and found 16.5-inch-long tracks in the first duet. I’m 6’1″ and weighed 300 pounds at the time, and I couldn’t make my tracks even a fourth as deep in the same substrate. There were lots of random things in between until January 15, 2019.
I was on a property I used to hunt, just cutting firewood. I was done and decided to take a short walk into some thicker timber in a narrow canyon to look for more wood to cut.
I was standing in a small clearing when I heard this loud, deep voice start talking. It sounded kind of Asian. It really creeped me out, so I went back to my truck and drove a few hundred yards down the canyon where some old cabins were.
I was looking toward the heavy woods. The north side was brush with lighter timber, while the south side was heavy timber. Since I’d heard the Sierra sounds, I kind of had a clue what I had heard.
I did the old Finding Bigfoot whoop. Nothing.
So I did a high-low whistle and got a low-high return from the brush side.
Almost a year later, on the same land, I got branch breaks and what I’d call a log slap.
After this, my wife and I may have caught a glimpse of something on that land, and the landowner had a thing with whistles.
Years later, I’d say around 2023, I was on Highway 89 headed through Battle, CA, and I’m pretty sure I caught one crossing the highway. It was around 300 yards away and looked like one of those cutouts people have. But it moved and disappeared into the brush.
Judging by the tree it passed, it would have been 8 feet or taller.
I’m leaving a bunch of little stuff out because I suck at typing.
Anyway, where I live is around 20 miles north of Mt. Shasta, but there have been sightings and other activity within 20 to 30 miles around the mountain.
I’ve collected a few local stories, and if I can find them, I also have a few weird trail-cam pictures. My favorite is a long, red-haired arm pushing my camera around a tree. Another shows a small brown arm reaching over a 3-foot fence. The most recent one shows a long, red-haired thing walking by a camera mounted about 6 feet high.
Nothing to prove anything, but they’re pretty cool.”
