SC EP:529 The Beasts of Britain

Andy McGrath, is a Cryptozoology ‘Enthusiast’ with over 25 years of research and obsession about the unknown creatures living right under our noses, here on this tiny island in the North Atlantic.

From a wildlife point of view, the accepted fauna of The British Isles were discovered and catalogued in their finite and immoveable state in the 19th century. Nothing has really been added to this list or considered worthy since and the continual reports of Water Monsters, Bigfoot, Mystery Big Cats and UFC’s (Unidentified Flying Cryptids) are largely ignored or used as newspaper fillers to entertain us.
Andy’s focus is on current research and recent sightings, pictures, videos and eyewitness accounts of the many cryptids of the British Isles.

Although vast advancements in science and technology have brought great discoveries in other lesser known parts of the world, our island lies largely underexplored and overlooked. At night, outside of the busy cities and next to the unlit lakes and lonely mountains it is an island in darkness, where nobody ventures into the woods anymore and the pervading paradigm scares all but the most foolhardy scientists away from any serious investigation of the many yet to be discovered – Beasts Of Britain

Author of Beasts of Britain, Speaker and field investigator, he is also currently working on his own TV series under the same name: Beasts of Britain and his new podcast: Beastly Theories, featuring low key interviews with researchers around the world, whilst also continuing his passion for writing about cryptids and out of place animals in other parts of the world. His new Beasts of Britain map(featuring the beautiful art of Brett Manning) is now also available to purchase online.

The second edition of Beasts of Britain will be released in February 2019, featuring new artwork, photos, chapters and expeditions; and his new title: ‘Beasts of North America’, is planned for release in December 2019.

You’re absolutely right Wes. Never go in the wilderness without a gun! I was taught this when I was very young. My father told me you never know what or who you could run into in the woods.

I think it’s neat that this weekend we have heard of two encounters that have had them manipulating or breaking trees. Alot of great info in this show. Much thanks to Andy and Chad.

Wes! I’m so so happy you did this and spoke to Andy. You’ve no idea how happy this made me. Loved this cast! So happy to hear about encounters from my part of the world ????????????????????? thank you so much! Xx love Angela x

The Sasquatch in Britain sound so much more refined than the creatures here in the states. Maybe they should try setting up some trail-cams around an offering stump and setting out tea in the afternoons.?
    Great show.! Thanks for sharing.

I really like the music clips played on segments. Very different but enjoyable. As for these creatures I believe they are hybrids. I do believe there is demonic activity. You can’t ignore the behavior and unnatural actions. No other animal in God’s creation has these particular behaviors. We live in a physical and spiritual world. Not one or the other. So it’s not a choice if these things are one or the other but both.
Just as we too were created physical and spiritual beings. There is good or evil. No shades of gray with God. God also tells us He is not the author or creator of evil. So that leaves one option when these creatures exhibit evil behavior. They are under influence of Satan. However God is in control of all creation. Satan has limited authority from God for a time. It’s part of God’s eternal plan. And I don’t think anyone should ever try to confront or actively seek out these creatures. If a chance encounter you better be in a right relationship with God as He is our protector through Christ. Don’t actively seek out evil or it will find you.

I’m a blood bought , born again believer in the Lord Jesus Christ. I agree with you that there is a spiritual as well as a physical dimension to theses things. I dont know, however , that they are entirely demonic. Absolutely, many encounters are clearly tainted by spiritual evil, but then there are a handful of encounters where the creature is helpful or even benevolent. Makes me very curious. Are they always demonic? Or do they sometimes become demon possessed?.
Is it right or wrong to look for them? I dont know. I have, however, often turned peoples questions about bigfoot into witnessing for Christ… I take them to Gen6 and build a case for the need of a savior.
First time I did that , I believe I heard the Lord say to me, ” see Guy , I can even use Bigfoot for my kingdom”.
      God bless

    POSSIBLE BIG CAT SIGHTING

Hi Wes, I have wild camped in the most remote areas of Scotland from extreme coast lines, deep forest, Hidden Lochs, Mountains and open moor land for the last 40 years. Although I do believe in the possibility of the survival of such a species in the America’s and other parts of the world, I struggle to believe they are in the UK. In saying this I have had some strange feeling of being watched. I understand that animals are watching me 99% of the time, when these feeling of being watched do not feel normal, and when those happened, I got the hell out of there. I have not seen anything out of the ordinary, BUT. I have heard voices, both in forests and when spending the nights in Bothies (building that are water tight, wind tight and are free for anyone to use). We have 84 of these in Scotland and Myself and a friend are working our way through them. 57 date.
The strangest encounter I have had was on the shores of Loch Etive, back in 1992. I was staying in a Bothy with some friends. We got there late. About 10pm. Whilst they set up inside the bothy I set of down to the shore to collect firewood. I was carrying my walkman in my pocket listening to music, an Axe and a Saw. I also had my head light on at it was pitch black. I had been there many times before, first time aged 12. I am now 56. Half way down to the shore I saw on my right hand side, TWO bright yellow-golden eyes about knee high, 6 feet away from me. I thought nothing of it as often sheep a d cattle graze in the field which the Bothy is in. I took another few steps and the bright eyes where now on left again about 6 feet away. I stopped and shone my headlight on the eyes. They shone must brighter. But the strangest thing was, even with light on the eyes I could not make out any out line on what was looking straight at me. Then it was gone. All of this lasted about 10 seconds.
I then continued on the quest for fire wood. The morning came and I went for a walk back down to the shore. It was a beautiful day, bright and sunny. And then it struck me. No Sheep or Cattle in the field. Which was really odd. Racking my brain I ran through the possible culprats, Fox, not big enough, Badger, not on Loch Etive, Pine Martin, again far to small. I shrugged it of and we had an eccelt weekend.
At the time my parents bought “The Oban Times” the local news paper for the area. Front page news……..BLACK PANTHER SPOTTED ON LOCH ETIVE SIDE. My blood ran cold to think that I could have been staughted by such an animal. Me with my hearing gone to the music and going about my business. Perhaps carrying an axe and saw, also not appearing scared may have resulted on the outcome that night. Very strange indeed. Big Cats are in the UK. oF THAT I can be sure. Lynx have now been reintroduced to southern Scotland wgich is very encouraging.

I had a roadside crossing in 2016 and found a fabulous footprint in my driveway in 2017. Chad if you’re reading this would you email me at deann.adams01@gmail.com please. Id really like to know more. Thanks Wes and Chad and Andy!

I live in Sussex, just south of Surrey, and I know Dorking (Box Hill) quite well. I might have to take my dog for a walk in the woods there and see what I can flush out.

    Nope. Not doing that lol

    Great show, Wes ??

      • Andrew O

        Hi Daniel.

Whereabouts in Sussex do you live? I live in Eastbourne. Not many official Sasquatch sightings down here, but I’m sure I’ve seen some hairy examples taking a dip in the sea a few times!

  9. Jan D

Lovely Day by Bill Withers, 1977, from the album Menagerie. This track once held the record for the longest vocal note in pop music. R-n-B gold. A tune with a solid groove that just soars.

That these creatures are in Great Britain and/or the British Isles is not surprising at all. Looking at reports going back as far as recorded history, these “wildmen” have existed everywhere humans have existed. Everywhere we have gone, they have gone or have been there before us. This is one more thing that sets the Sasquatch apart from wild animals, like the mountain gorilla. Their distribution suggests the intelligence of a hominoid, a hunting-gathering type of existence, a being capable of migrating at will. They could well have swum the Channel, crossed the Bering Straights, and migrated down into Asia, North Africa, South America… Early humans did it. The Neanderthals did it. And these creatures would have been equally if not more capable of enduring and surviving the climates and terrain where they are reported. Why we don’t have specimens is the question. Or do we have specimens that are not identified as such?

Episode after episode I think ” this is the Best one yet”…and I certainly felt that with this one! Great show Wes! I just love listening to these folk’s encounters because they are just simply Genuine People! They’ve had unusual, frightening experiences, like yourself and are just trying to get through all of it! I’m glad that I get to be a part of the circle you’ve created here and, support these folks with comments that assure them that we are here to believe and support them! Thank’s to You! Thank you! _/\_

Regarding the big cat sightings in UK, there was an article in the Sun today about an attack in someone’s garden. Attacked the dog and chased off the owner back into his house. Police think it was defending its kill. Maybe explains why so many pets are going missing in that area.

Fascinating episode. Thanks Wes and Andy.

Wes I would love it if you came to the U.K. I know everyone always wants to see London, visit Big Ben see if the Queen is home at the palace. The U.K. has a lot more to offer than London.
I thought I would share this with everyone, in 2000 I was in Sutton Country Park and Nature Reserve, it’s north Birmingham near Sutton Coldfield. Walking my loyal Staffy Skye. My dog loved that park a huge open space including a forested area. Skye loved running off into the woods but would come back as soon as she heard my call. This day Skye would not move from my side not a foot away. I tried throwing her ball nothing she would not move. Then I noticed that it was silent not a bird could be heard. I remember thinking how strange it was this park has deer, rabbits and a camping area too. I didn’t stay any longer and got back to my car quickly. I only ever went back twice more after that day it always gave me the heebie geebies as we say. If you come to the U.K. Wes there’s lots to experience and see ???

Great show! I noticed he mentioned the general sparsity of population and yet counter-intuitive density of reports from Scotland, indicating a likely good-sized population of these guys over there. Too bad he didn’t mention the Gray man of Ben McDhui, though.

  15. MONTE H

So if this dude started in with this shit story, I’d be forced to kick him in the nuts for EXPLAINING every fukn noise n fart wookies make to a PLANET FULL OF WES’S CHRONICLE LISTENERS!!! STOP IT DUDE!! Do you story tellers EVER listen to HOW you’re regaling the rest of us? You might consider learning how to tell a story, the kind where the listeners aren’t begging to commit suicide after ten minutes of repeating over n over THE SAME FUKN DETAILS. SOMEBODY HANG ME, PLEASE, FOR CHRIST’S SAKE!!!

  16. MONTE H

Pssst…that was a bit harsh, which I do frequently, then delete it. For me, it’s the same as chewing somebody’s ass out for whatever, however, nobody but me sees it. Soooo, where’s the delete button?

  17. Dominique P

Species: I read somewhere an ex-officer from US Army was mentioning that there are nine creatures identified by the US government that all have this characteristic of being able to move from our dimension to another one, back and forth: your three types of sasquatch, Les: 1. the tall one in Alaska looking like an ape,
    2. the smaller sasquatch 6-7 feet tall throughout US and Canada, with a man’s face
    3. and the Gugwee of the Indians like photographed at the 6 chutes in Quebec (the beast of the six chutes)
    4. the dogman, used to be called werewolves, (loup-garous in Quebec)
    5. the little sasquatch (little men) that are responsible of many of the disappearances of people in US and Canada (see “411” series of books, CANAM 411 project)
    6. the mothman in New England, quite rare;
    7. the huge black cat, like a black panther, and two others that I do not recalled.
The army (green berets and one special agency in the US are involved in killing the rogue aggressive sasquatches, and Canadian Special Forces based in Trenton Ontario in Canada).
There is nothing demonic in those creatures, Les, I wish you would stop referring to that, these are creatures of elsewhere that have always come here. They are from another dimension and come here from time to time for their own reasons, to eat or amuse themselves. The small men for instance are mischievous and sadistic. They can make you jump (as they jump themselves) from one place to another one a couple of miles away, and they do that to bug and scare you, and then they hit and scratch you, they always do this little funny exercise as a group of 5-10 individuals, until you die of a heart attack, and throw you off a cliff so when your body are discovered, it look like an accident (see Missing 411 books, many cases like that). The Indians fear them a lot.
Now the orbs of blue light are explained by a researcher of UFO and aliens phenomena as one type of aliens that render services to other species (they are altruistic), mostly reconnaissance, like spies. They are inoffensive and not malevolent.

  18. Jennifer G

They’re strong. They swim. Humans swam across the English Channel. Why not Sasquatch coming from Europe at some point? Word of abundant food travels fast among living creatures so not surprising that they made it to the UK?

  19. Judith S

I am a Uk subscriber. No we don’t have Sasquatch here. I live in a remote part of country. There are no sightings or tracks or sound recordings. Andy is promoting his book that’s his aim to sell his book. He didn’t sound genuine either. He wants to believe they are here. Snake oil.
