A listener writes “Hi Wes, I live near Mt. Shasta, California. My first notable experience happened around 1984 or ’85. My brother and I were headed to a job he was working at around 2 a.m. We stopped at a turnout on Old Stage Road near the Shasta River.
My brother had one of those weird half-van, half-pickup trucks with the engine between the seats. The choke was stuck, so we opened the “doghouse” to manually disengage it. While we were doing that, the rear of the truck slammed into the ground incredibly hard.
Needless to say, we got out of there in a hurry.
When we got to where we were going, I noticed partial footprints with toes on the bumper and handprints on the camper shell. They were pretty big, but we just kind of chalked it up to a crazy hippie incident.
I used to hunt a lot not so much anymore because I don’t have the time and I had quite a few weird things happen over the years.
In February 2013, a hunting buddy called me and said he had seen some giant bear tracks from his log truck. Even though California had just banned hunting with dogs, we figured we should run the tracks the following weekend.
The next morning, he called me in distress.
Around 3 a.m., he had stopped at the tracks because he saw some new ones. Using a headlamp, he decided to take a break and check them out. That’s when he came face-to-face with an over-seven-foot-tall, hairy creature with yellow eyes that looked extremely pissed off.
Over the years, he’s told me he’s seen several of them standing on ridges in the area around McCloud, California.
I drove south to the location of his face-to-face encounter and found 16.5-inch-long tracks in the dirt. At the time, I was 6’1″ and around 300 pounds, and I couldn’t make my own tracks even a quarter as deep in the same substrate.
There were lots of random things that happened in between, but then, on January 15, 2019, I was on a property I used to hunt, just cutting firewood. I was finished for the day and decided to take a short walk into some thicker timber in a narrow canyon to look for more wood to cut.
I was standing in a small clearing when I heard this loud, deep voice start talking. It sounded kind of Asian.
It creeped me out, so I went back to my truck and drove a few hundred yards farther down the canyon, where there were some old cabins.
I was looking toward the heavy woods. The north side was brushy with lighter timber, while the south side had much heavier timber.
Since I’d heard the Sierra sounds before, I kind of had a clue what I might have heard. I did the old *Finding Bigfoot* whoop.
Nothing.
So I did a high-low whistle and got a low-high whistle in return from the brushy side.
Almost a year later, on the same property, I heard branch breaks and what I would describe as a log slap.
After that, my wife and I may have caught a glimpse of something on that land. The landowner also had a thing about whistles.
Years later, I’d say around 2023, I was driving on Highway 89 through Battle Creek, California, and I’m pretty sure I caught a glimpse of one crossing the highway.
It was around 300 yards away and looked almost like one of those cutout figures people put in their yards. But it moved and disappeared into the brush. Judging by the tree it passed, it would have been at least eight feet tall.
I’m leaving out a bunch of the smaller things because I suck at typing.
Anyway, where I live is around 20 miles north of Mt. Shasta, but there have been sightings and other activity within roughly 20 to 30 miles of the mountain.
I’ve collected a few local stories, and if I can find them, I also have a few weird trail-cam pictures.
My favorite is a long, red-haired arm pushing my camera around a tree. Another shows a small brown arm reaching over a three-foot fence. The most recent one shows a long, red-haired figure walking past a camera that was mounted about six feet high.
Nothing that proves anything, but they’re pretty damn cool.”

Wes, myself , my spouse , son and daughter in law all heard the money chatter near our geographical area in 2022 in April. We were camping at Riffe Lake near Glenoma/ Packwood, WA in our RV early camping season because we were still doing the Covid thing. They had a toddler and were planning a second baby. My sons a Dr. and sees individuals who were really sick and hospitalized for it, so remote and literally the more by ourselves back then, the better. There were literally only us and 2 other RV’s there because it wasn’t a weekend. My husband was outside putting out the campfire. The rest of us were setting up sleeping arrangements inside. He called me out as I’m the Sasquatch believer. There were loud “ monkey noises coming from the direction of the Lake . Super loud, & it just sounded like a troop of primates. My 1st impression was they were arguing or disagreeing about something. You definitely could hear different individuals commenting on what sounded like a “ monkey language”. But it was definitely like oh oh ah , that you hear in a zoo or on a documentary about chimps or other primates vocalizing . I insisted everyone come outside and listen because I was pretty sure we were listening to a group of juvenile Sasquatch. I believe in them but they all do not even really being very skeptical. Even my spouse who gives me a bit of a bad time over some of the more questionable accounts and will not admit to their probable existence as he’s extremely skeptical too said it sounded like monkeys. His theory “ who would go outside at like almost midnight and play a tape recording really loud of money noises?” His theory also included the idea “maybe it’s a person looking for Sasquatch?” Made no sense, people in this area might shoot at sounds and ask questions later. Plus, there was no one wandering around in the dark, cold woods at that time of night, especially that remotely . 2 . Other RV’s were dark and quiet as it was late. We listened for at least 15-20 min. Then it quit. I was so excited but was unprepared to stay outside and listen alone as everyone was going to bed. Went to bed, opened window at head of my bed and read. At about 1:30 am, they started up again. Just as loud but now sounded a bit further away possibly. Still in the direction of the Lake but like 100 yards away maybe. Lasted again15-20 min, a little more sporadic but still continuing. Then just stopped and heard it no more. I finally feel asleep, but was very excited. I did wake my husband to listen again, this time he was less interested, listened for a few moments & turned over and went back to sleep. I camp there quite a bit still every spring, summer& fall. Never heard it again but do keep alert for signs and vocals, tracts.

I’d like to see the pictures.

Lots of stories and Im sure a good many of them are Bigfoot related. This Mt. Shasta area is loaded with stories of them and other high strangeness. Interesting you noted the Bigfoot with yellow eyes seemed pissed off. Usually yellow eyes means they are in calm state.
An Uncle of my wife passed away in January this year, almost 90. Some younger relative from way northern California, had a nice dually truck attened that she did not know. We got to know him a diner after the funeral. Finds out he was a logger in the general away of your encounters and sightings. Me being me I asked him about any Bigfoot stories. He knew all about them, though not having seen one, he knew of people that had and was a believer.

great stories! I’d love to see the weird trail cams too.
