I have always wanted to know how to do that. I am thrilled to see this. Now I can impress my husband with my knowledge of the ways of his people. lol
It looks so much like flying when they do that shawl dance. I love Indian music. I used to play some for my class at the end of the day on Fridays (American history is fifth grade in CA) and they just loved it.
I had CDs from Borders. That is how long ago that was.
Enjoyed watching this video. Have gone many times to the Julyamsh Pow Wow in Post Falls Idaho and loved observing the Native dancers compete for prizes. If I remember correctly this dance originally was called the Butterfly Dance and performed in a much slower and graceful way but love this quicker version too. I think the first dancers who I had watched performing this Shawl dance were Navajo women. Very wonderful to observe the cultural dances of our First People.
